Mare of Easttown
A detective in a small town in Pennsylvania investigates a local murder while her own life begins to fall apart.
This is a show that I've heard about for the past couple of months. On how this show and the Queen's Gambit are going to battle it out for the best outstanding miniseries at the Emmy's. After watching this show, it is absolutely going to be a battle for that Emmy because this show is an outstanding achievement in television.
Brad Ingelsby has crafted one of the best crime dramas I've seen on television. Not only because the murder was the last person you would suspect, but because this show is much more than a murder mystery. This show at its heart is about the life of Detective Mare Sheenhan and how these cases affect not only her life but how she reflects on her own life. The story is full of darkness and depression that almost made my mother turn off the television. This show feels scary accurate in how it portrays tragedy and the human reaction to it. Many refuse to confront their tragedy while others let it devour them. Ingelsby has truly crafted an excellent murder mystery show that is so much more.
The acting in this show is a masterclass. Kate Winslet steals the show. I believe this might be the best performance that I've seen from her. The majority of her performance is subtle with spared our moments of strong emotion. Her performance feels raw and real, like a detective who is barely keeping it together but somehow moves along. Evan Peters was another performance that really stole the show. This is also the best performance that I've seen from him. It was nice to see him in a more grounded role, similar to his early days in American Horror Stories: Asylum. He is a really good drama actor that I wish I can see him in more roles like this. Every single performance in this show is excellent. Even the most minor characters have a massive impact on the show in terms of realism and performance. Everyone was on point when it came to casting this series.
The show is beautifully shot. Every single shot is gorgeous and captures the essence of small-town America. The score is outstanding. The score really adds to the atmosphere of depression that Mare is facing. I really have no complaints about this show. The show is phenomenally paced and well written. Every episode leaves you asking for more and I hope that this show stays as a miniseries. I highly recommend this show to all.
I am giving Mare of Easttown an A+.
