I’m curious: to people who sing as a vocal stim, do you sing actual songs that you know or make up your own?

Still kinda marveling at the fact that my natural coping mechanism for dealing with the impulsiveness of undiagnosed ADHD was apparently to give myself an anxiety disorder to balance it out
my new lifehack to help me focus is listening to the Beep Block Skyway music (With Beeps) from Super Mario 3D World on a 1 hour loop
Affect vs Effect
A handy little trick I use to remember the difference:
Affect is an Action
Effect is the End result
Any other ADHDers out there find that they're actually pretty okay at staying seated for a while but standing still is practically impossible?
I don't know how many fellow autistic people feel the same way, but personally, I firmly believe that my hypersensitivity can be a positive as much as it can be a negative.
Yes, painful sounds and textures are awful, but the amount of joy I get from pleasant ones is unparalleled. It goes both ways.
ADHD test: asks if I experience a symptom
Me, who has spent 20 years masking symptoms and struggling to form a consistent identity: ...........maybe?
Autism, ADHD, and What They Mean to Me
A personal project of sorts where I attempt to describe and categorise some of my personal experiences with ADHD and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The list isn’t exhaustive or particularly organised but I figured I’d share in case someone found it interesting.
Autism feels like:
not being aware of or understanding social norms and expectations
not being in control of my facial expressions; not being able to use them to communicate
speaking in a monotone, struggling to control my vocal inflections and understand other people’s
taking extreme comfort in familiarity: wearing the same clothes, eating the same foods, reliving the same experiences is more appealing than discovering new ones
analytical, logical thinking
unusual use of language: formal or archaic words, atypical grammar
emotions manifest as repetitive physical movements: flapping, clapping, and wiggling is happy; rubbing or pounding my legs is stressed or upset
excellent memory for facts and minuscule or irrelevant details
poor coordination, physically awkward, stiff or disjointed movement
always taking things completely literally, being taken literally when trying to make a joke, being misunderstood as joking when being serious
being more comfortable without eye contact
extreme sensitivities to sound, taste, texture, light; can be good and bad
strong adherence to rules, expectation for others to follow suit
enjoying solitude, doing my own thing at my own pace
ADHD feels like:
being aware of social expectations but not being able to stop myself from forgetting or breaking them anyway
not being in control of my body, always absentmindedly fidgeting
struggling to control my volume; always too loud or too quiet
getting bored easily, struggling to establish routine and build habits
having a mind that never stops, makes strange connections
not being able to keep up with my own thoughts, my own mouth, my own emotions
failing to notice obvious details and objects in the environment
no sense of time or the order in which things happened
happiness manifests as physical and mental energy: not being able to sit still, lots of talking, eagerness
not being able to close my eyes without my mind going wild
talking with my hands, always needing physical and auditory stimulation
extreme sensitives to disapproval, criticism, rejection, and failing to meet standards
always wanting more of the things I like, one is never enough
enjoying company, needing other people to keep me on track and inspire me
