Braid Hills, Edinburgh
21 July 2019 - Braid Hills
I’ve been sticking to a pretty banal schedule of gym, library, home, so it’s not at all surprising that I have a big gap between my posts (practically a month!). However, I did take a break to get one more hill checked off of our list of seven! Hill number 6 was the Braid Hills which was lovely and different from the other hills, as it was more rolling than a peak. Then we made friends with a beautiful cat on the way home, so it was probably my favorite hill yet. Now just one to go!
20 March 2019 - The Braid Hills
I stole (not really) some running routes from the university’s running club website, and ran to the Braid Hills today! I’ve never run over there, but they’re essentially behind Blackford Hill. It was a bit cloudy but that made for a nice atmosphere running along this trail. It actually, weirdly, kind of reminded me of back home in PA which was nice.

Whad'ya know, I did have enough yarn after all. Braid Hills is finished and I found the perfect buttons for it. The scoop neck is much deeper than I usually wear but it suits the design.
On Ravelry: Dark and Twisty
Pattern: Braid Hills by Kate Davies, £4.50 download on Rav
Yarn: 814 m/890 yd of Garnstudio DROPS Merino Extra Fine in #03m Dark Grey
Needles: 4.0 and 4.5 mm
Mods: Two-stitch buttonholes, 12 rows apart
I misread the pattern and started knitting the twisted-stitch chart from the bottom edge instead of doing modified twisted rib. For symmetry, I repeated my “mistake” for the neckband. Started to run low on yarn when knitting the sleeves so I only did one chart repeat after decreases, then a 5 cm cuff. Had the perfect 3/4-length sleeves but they grew in blocking!
WIP Wednesday: Dark & Twisty
DROPS is having their annual supersale on all wool yarns all May. I was looking through the pattern database on Ravelry, especially for cardigans in their DK range (Karisma, Cotton Merino etc.) and found Kate Davies' Braid Hills already in my queue.
And then realized I already had suitable yarn in my stash. Score!
I should be fine on yardage but am getting slightly concerned -- half of it is already used up and I'm only up to the armhole shaping on the pattern...
Kitties like sushi stitch markers, too, apparently.
