I hope at some point in the show, Garnet gets split up again and the only way to get back to the others is to fight a bunch of gems. Since fusion is looked down upon, no other gems would be fused. Pearl and Sapphire find each other first and fuse since that would give them an advantage. I bet they would be the most graceful fastest opera singing and dancing sword fighter ever.
