"This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break."
Rain hates being able to see the red string of fate. He's noticed it since he was a kid. He hated it when he caused arguments with his aunties. He hated it when his friends blamed him for their parent's divorce. And he hated that he didn't know who he was attached to. Once he tried following it, only to slam into a door. He decided then, he would just be surprised by who was at the end of his string.
Years passed and Rain never connected with his fated partner. But now, he was a freshman in college and he thinks he's found his fated person, Ple. He was devastated when he noticed it didn't connect to her. Because he knows how she makes him feel. So maybe he's been going about this all wrong. Maybe he has to connect with someone, fall in love, and then the string will attach itself. In the back of his head, he knows that's not how it works, but Ple's right here being amazing, not somewhere in the world not even knowing Rain exists
Rain pursues Ple earnestly, but along the way, he starts feeling a pull on his string. Like the person on the other end knows he's going after someone else. Then again, it may just be all in his head because he's never heard about a string doing that. So, he's not going to be discouraged.
Until the frat party, he sees his handsome stranger that helped with his car. He notices that his string goes to him. That'd be great, if the Architect God even remembered him. String or no string there is no way he'll be able to get this guy to think that their fated lovers. At least, he gets him to help when his car breaks down again.
P'Phayu brings him back to the garage where his car is being towed. Allowed him to shower, gave him a change of clothes, and now he's helping him dry his hair! P'Phayu is a great guy, such a wonderful person, so helpful, a stand-up gentleman, a Saint in the eyes of-- ah fuck! Did he just kiss his neck?!?!? His fated lover is a pervert!!!! Rain spends the better half of the evening torn between giving in and fighting until Phayu stops being weird and throws a pillow on the couch for him.
Rain watches him cautiously as Phayu gets in the bed and pretends to sleep. He knows he's pretending. Rain's not stupid. He lowers himself on the couch slowly, eyes never leaving Phayu. He tries to get comfortable but that asshole couldn't even give him a blanket. What feels like hours pass before Rain grabs his pillow and heads over to the bed.
He raises his hand to see if Phayu is really asleep, the red string dangling from his finger, a glaring reminder that this is his fated person. Rain pokes him to see if he's actually asleep, and when he doesn't move, he slowly slips under the covers. As he looks over at Phayu's sleeping face, he feels a small smile bloom on his lips. Sleeping Phayu does look like someone who would be easy to love.
Rain drifts off the sleep not noticing Phayu opening his eyes, peeking over at him. Phayu watches the boy to make sure he's asleep before pulling his hand from underneath the covers. He smiles softly at the red string looped around his finger that's connectedto this cutie. His string is a little frayed and worn from all the pulling and fighting he used to do. He fought long and hard against what this string meant. How it affected his relationships. It even changed the way he approached relationships. After a while, he started to resent the string and his fated person.
As Rain turned over, wrapping an arm around Phayu, he smiled brightly before pulling Rain closer. "I've been waiting for you for a long time." He whispers softly, "I'm already starting to like you." Phayu kissed his head softly as he closed his eyes to sleep.
