When you watch 12x19 and 12x23… actually… Dean is surprisingly nice about the Jack issue in the beginning of season 13.
Cas leaves to kill Jack (Dean obviously guesses it) ; Dagon is ready to do anything for Jack to be born / Dagon is yellow-eyed -> Jack possesses Cas and uses him to kill Dagon (Jack gets rid of his protector) -> Cas is yellow-eyed / Cas is ready to do anything for Jack to be born -> Cas dies against Lucifer (Jack gets rid of his protector 2.0…? anyway, Dean and Sam should have thought that)

Cas' eyes turning yellow was meant to be creepy! Even more so, it was meant to make you wonder if Cas was still in control, even episodes later.
After all, even when angels, demons or princes of Hell aren't flashing their eyes, it doesn't mean the vessel is free. The vessel is still a puppet.

Baby!Jack being a win for Destiel in s12? No. He brainwashed Cas into abandoning his boyfriend to play house with his Republican mom.
Actually, the s12-13 Destiel win was Destiel finding each other again despite: brainwashing (fetus!Jack), Lucifer, Hell (Dagon), US governement, Republican (Kelly), Pro-Life activist (fetus!Jack), white-picket fence life and traditional family.
Then Cas died.
It's interesting how the only option against Nephilim is to send the Flood and do a do-over, even in SPN (deleted scene).
Heaven needs souls. They want as many souls as they can gather. The situation should have been quite desperate that they put a stop to their soul factory, almost starting again from the beginning of mankind.
They couldn't stop the brainwashing. Killing the Nephilim wasn't enough. They had to kill their human followers too.
It puts into perspective how neither Cas nor Kelly seem to come back to themselves after 12x19 🤔
Jumping off the "Jack makes Dean think of Emma" train. I feel like this comparison is a projection of the fandom vision of monsterhood (the species) than Dean's (the actions). Their situations are very different: Emma needs a knife to be able to harm/kill someone like any human and hasn't endangered anyone while Jack is a powerful cosmic being who controlled people and opened portals to other dimensions and got a Prince of Hell, an angel and his mom killed, all this before his birth.
BUT I agree part of Dean resents Sam for not acknowledging how dangerous Jack was at the beginning of season 13 after having killed his daughter without a second thought.
