Those lines in spn 4x03:

SAMUEL: Nice job in there.

DEAN: I missed the shot.

SAMUEL: Take the compliment, son. I'm saying that I was wrong about you.

That was it, the warning that Samuel was possessed. Azazel/Samuel complimented Dean, as did Azazel/John, but this time Dean didn't notice. Dean knew John very well and knew what to expect from him. But he'd only known Samuel for a few hours and didn't recognize the pattern. And then it was too late.

So in later seasons all the demons use cell phones, but in the first season Meg uses her ritual blood bowl to contact Yellow Eyes. Now this could be because the show generally starts taking demons less seriously as a threat, but have we considered the possibility that Azazel doesn’t know how to use a cell phone

Maybe it's the lack of sleep or my forgetfulness to eat, or maybe something rests inside me — emotions that I've burried deep, so maybe I for once could feel the peace of mind that others keep.
