I love people, acronyms and cycles! Why? Because nothing is really new. Today the big buzzword is RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing), however, 20 years ago, when I got into recruiting, it was called, are you ready? Recruiting! Yep. That's right!

Originally recruiters did it all, everyone ran 360 desks, everyone took the info and wrote the job descriptions, we all did the phone screening, and in some cases the second round interviews as well, the technical interviews were done within the company, the offers were made and negotiated by the recruiter, and the candidate signed. Effectively recruiters were acting as agents. Really the only part of the process we were not entirely a part of was the on-boarding. I say not entirely because, we still had a level or participation in that process. We advised on where to be, when, who to ask for, what to wear, what to bring and what to be prepared for on the first day. And typically we followed up after a couple of weeks etc. to see how the candidate was doing. All part of the service that is now called RPO. (Granted there is a bit more to the RPO, but not much).

So, basically, when we talk about the idea of RPO, we are saying let's go back to the processes that were used 20 years ago, and have, more or less, disappeared recently.
