I got these on a lark at Trader Joe's. I didn't realize until later that there was a coupon available for Lady Alice apples. Oh, well. Something new, at least. Never had these. Or heard of these. The bag says their flavor is INTENSE. It says it's more tart than a Honeycrisp. I'm not sure if "intense" just refers to tartness.
The bag also says it's one of Europe's most popular apples. How enchanting! So European. So sophisticated! Well, I'll be the judge of that, Frenchie!
According to Wikipedia, they're a cross between Gala apples and Braeburn apples. That's also what Jazz apples are, except those were developed by a New Zealand company and these are Belgian. I like Belgium, so I'll allow it.
The brand name is Swahili for some reason.
The apple looks cute. Small. Red and yellow. Speckled. This one has an extra bit of stem. So the stem is too long and also gross looking. Ew. But I pulled that off and washed it. Oh. Now I notice a large blemish on the bottom. Oh, well.
Fairly crisp!! And very juicy! A delightful burst of juice upon first bite. And yeah, it's tart. Whoa. That's bold.
I like it! The tart is not too overwhelming. Overall good eating experience.
I rate this apple "5" on the Not Honeycrisp scale.
