Resident Evil : The backstory you should know
A/N: Hello! I know i havent posted in a while since school has been hectic, and all i do is study go to school and sleep, but today i managed to find sometime and share some of my insights and information you should propably know before beginning to play or watch a gamethrough of the residnet evil franchise!! As always be respectful and now that the information i know are drawn from other resources which i will leave at the end of my post! If anything i say is wrong please correct me in the comments and i will correct it, thank you!

Firstly lets start with some lore, that you only see in pictures, etc in the game and at the beginning you dont know really well. The even im about to refer to occured between 1919-1998.
One of the characters that we will refer to a lot, especially in Resident Evil 7 & 8, is Mother Miranda. Mother Miranda, back in 1919, lost her daughter, Eva, to the spanish flu. Striken by grief for her lost daughter, Mother Miranda, went inside a cave in th ehopes of killing herself, but what she found there was much more interesting. Inside she found what is called the "Megamycete", and in a letter she left for Eva she says that and i quote "When i touched the black substance, my mind was overcome with knowledge". She then goes on to explain that the megamycete (which also produces the mold), breaks down and absorbs the conciousness of those who have died, and so with that information in mind she started researching to bring her daughters conciouness back, she just needed the perfect vessel for that.
She infected the villagers with the mold, in order to experiment on them and if they werent what she was looking for they turned into lycans. After a long while of doing that, she even tried to increase the efficiency of finding the perfect vessel by creating a parasite called the "Cadou", but that also didnt work.
What really should be mentioned here is that she also gave some of Evas DNA and some of the mold, to the "Connections" who sid would helpd her but never gave her the result she needed. But they helped her in another way, by letting her know of Rose Winters existence.
While we also should not, the fact that the four lords (Alcina Dimitrescu. Donna Beneviento, Karl Heisenberg and Salvatore Moreau), where orignally Mirandas test subjects that were the closest to perfection and which came from rich families, and so she let them rule and controlled thme in a way (alll except for Heisenberg).
In the 1950's: Miranda met and mentored Oswell E. Spencer, an aristocrat. Miranda trusted to show him her experiments and he later on became really infatuated with human mutation, and left Mirandas side due to his different goals. He would begin to research ways to reach the next stage of human evolution (accoding to him).
On the way he found company, three scientists by the names of Edward Ashford, James Marcus and Brandon Bailey, Spencer would soon find the progenitor virus in West Africs and with that would create the Umbrella Corporation ( a company disguised as a pharmaceutical company).
In the 1960's: Project W and Project code Veronica were sanctioned. Both projects had simillar purposes, as their intentions were to create individuals with exceptional powers, using the research fom the progenitor virus, but they had on eimportant difference. You see Project Code Veronica, had to create a successor to the Ashford dynarty since Alexander Ashford was the only one remaining after the death of his father, Edward.
Having reached its goal, the Project Code Veronica, managed to bring into existence Alexia and Alfred Ashford.
As for the goal of Project W, it was to adopt children, give them the last name Wesker and monitor their progress as they grew up. Out of that project, the two most succesful children were Albert and Alex.
In the 1970's: The Umbrella Corporation, combined the progenitor virus with leech DNA and created the tyrant virus (also known as the T-virus). The t-virus essentially works like any zombie virus, but there are also some variants of it like poleheads and liquors, where in a few cases the person sujected to them gains superhuman powers and dont have that much control over their own mind.
The accomplishment of that goal was made by James Marcus who got betrayed by Specer, and told Albert Wesker and William Birkin to take the research to the Arklay mountains. And after several years Marcus was killed by Wesker.
In the 1980s: Alexia Ashford creats the new T- Veronica virus who used it on her father Alexander Ashford, turned him inot a monster and then also used it on herself but ended up going on cryosleep.
Being really simillar to the t-virus (hence the name), doesnt have that many biological differences akthough the mutation that the host gets is more extreme., but unlike the t virus if the the host spends a lot of time infected by the t veronica virus then they regain control over their mental state.
When Birkins role in the Corporation became more significant her managed to create "The Hunter" and "The Tyrant", and that creation was the beginning of BOW's (biorganic weapons). After that he also discovered the Golgotha Virus (g-virus). The g virus is unlike the othet two. It doesnt create zombies, but it has a heavier mutation to the point the host becomes unrecognisable. But these mutations, also serve as a way to bring back missing boddy pieces (regenation system).
