Rest In Peace, you beautiful soul. I’m so sorry we failed you. You will always be remembered. I promise.
9:27pm.
In five hours, Brandon Bernard will be executed. He has worked his whole adult life to atone for what he did and rehabilitate others and help stop young people from straying for the right path. Please, if you’re from America, consider calling!
i feel so incredibly sick, i can’t believe this has happened.
if you don’t know who brandon bernard is, here is his story.
brandon was a young african american man who was an accessory to a crime in 1999. he was only 18 years old at the time. despite not having the main role in the case and even with several details remaining unknown, brandon bernard was sentenced to death. after 21 years in prison, he was put to death, murdered by the federal government on december 10th 2020.
brandon did not have a leading role in the crime committed. he was an accomplice at only 18 years old. he demonstrated positive behaviour throughout his two decades in prison and he even reached out to others to counsel them not to follow in his path. when he was found guilty, the government and jurors both lacked critical details and had an incomplete picture of the man brandon was and the offense committed.
five of the nine jurors who originally found brandon guilty, as well as the prosecutor who assisted in getting him on death row, all asked trump to intervene and halt the execution. when these jurors were given new information YEARS after his sentencing, they either fully supported brandon’s clemency petition to get him off death row or were not opposed to his death sentence beinf commuted to life without parole instead. the SAME jurors who 20 years ago, with the incomplete information they had at the time, found brandon guilty and unanimously voted for the death sentence. former prosecutor, angela moore, who helped put him on death row argued for the trump administration to spare brandon’s life. “i urgently hope that a court or the president will step in to stop brandon’s execution.”
brandon bernard was pronounced dead, on december 10th 2020 at 9:27pm.
despite a clemency petition and thousands of letters, the us government and trump administration murdered this man. brandon bernard was a friend. a son. a father. remember him. remember his smile and his kind words. this world needs to change and we have to be the change. please remember this mans name and his story.
“if these are my last days, i pray that my words will live on forever...i hope that my death will bring a meaning other than destruction and it will ripple through generations positively.” 🤍
rest in peace, brandon bernard.
A lot of these Death Row cases that are emerging now ...happened between Reagan’s “War on Drugs” & Clinton’s crime bill. During this time police were pressured (& incentivized) to close cases, and they utilized the Racist narrative already established in this Country to target young Black Men (& Black people in general)
Systemic Racism in the Justice system means stricter sentencing laws which leads to excessive criminal sentences for Black people, that fuels more prisons (which creates a demand for prisoners) and THAT emboldened the police to abuse power. It’s a disgusting cycle that NEEDS RACISM because Racism justifies the exploitation of Black people.
Defunding The Police, Dismantling ICE Prison Abolition, and Abolishing the death penalty are the most pressing issues in our Nation.
Rest In Peace, Brandon Bernard
URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!!
brandon bernard is scheduled to be put to death on december 10th 2020, after 21 years in prison. THREE DAYS FROM NOW!!
five of the original jurors on his case disagrees with his current sentence now. prison officials have confirmed that he has taken steps to improve himself and change during his time.
he was eighteen, a teenager, when he was a non-violent accomplice for murder, and deeply regrets the deaths he’s caused. after years of counseling and improving himself, even the warden of his prison agrees that brandon bernard has changed and doesn’t deserve to have his life taken away.
you can help him at this website where you can send a letter to president trump, urging him to seek clemency for bernard!
please share and spread the word!!!
Hey y’all friendly reminder to call the department of justice concerning the case of Brandon Bernard I have a script of what to say if anyone needs but this is serious I just called y’all should too
Here’s a script for your voicemail
What you need to understand is that the systemic issues is not just Trump being an asshole.
Trump reinstated the federal execution program, and for that, may he burn in hell.
But Obama was asked, BEGGED to commute Brandon in his last few months as President, he didn’t. His Attorney General didn’t. The DOJ didn’t.
What I’m saying to you right now is that the racially motivated systemic injustices go way father back than the last four years. It’s why those systems need to be abolished.
And it’s also why you shouldn’t fucking idolize politicians, and yes that means the Obamas, AOC, ALL of them. Take this as a wake up call, this. country. is. flawed. And no politician no matter how much you like them, will ever get it 100% right. Okay?
The Trump administration has 4 more executions planned before next month. Let’s get to work and try to save them.
