Brandon rarely went into town to go to the bars, but on the few occasions where his alcohol at home wasn’t cutting it, he made the trip out. Grinning, he sat his beer down. “You know,” he said. “I kind of think karaoke is tacky, but it was definitely worth coming out here tonight to see you do that.”

To say that Brandon was nervous was an understatement. He had been fine all afternoon--getting Charlotte had been fine, they had had, by any and all of Brandon’s standards, a wonderful afternoon together. He was relieved that Amelia had agreed to staying with him, probably because he was more worried about her than he was really processing, but was worried about how things would go once she got there.
Gabe finally dropped her off, instructions on how to care for her whispered under his breath, and then had disappeared, most likely headed back to work. Brandon shut the door behind him, and then turned to face the girls. “So,” he said, look at them both. “What do you want to do first?”
