Body Cavity Search Texas: Two Women Sue DPS After Roadside Search
Body Cavity Search Texas: Right when you think you’ve heard it all stories like this pop up about two women being violated on the side of the road by cops.
The story starts simply enough. Officer Nathaniel Turner pulled over Brandy Hamilton and Alexandria Randle in Brazoria County on Memorial Day back in 2012 for speeding. After approaching the car he claimed he smelled marijuana.
This is where it gets–well, weird. According to the news report by KHOU 11 Turner found a small amount of marijuana in the car, but must not have been satisfied with what he found so he called for a female officer, Jennie Bui, to get up close and personal with Hamilton and Randle.
By up close and personal I mean search their anuses and vaginal areas for pot.
Go ahead. Be shocked; its a natural response (but the story gets worse).
The dashboard camera caught the search in progress. Hamilton can be heard asking Bui in disbelief if she was really going to search her private parts. Bui answered in the affirmative. It is pretty apparent from Hamilton’s reaction caugh by the dashboard video when the search commenced.
“We were just assaulted in the worst way possible,” Randle told local station KXAN. “We weren’t asked could we be touched. It was just done to us. I’m just embarrassed.”
Here is where it gets worse–there were three Brazoria County sheriff’s deputies standing by watching while this was going on. So either the are all perverted or someone in DPS needs to overhaul whatever qualifies as standard operating procedure for law enforcement personnel in Texas.
Bui has been fired by Texas DPS; Turner has only been suspended.
Sadly, the cause for outrage does not end there. This is not the first time officers have conducted roadside body cavity searches on women. A similar incident happened to Ashley and Angela Dobbs after officers pulled them over for littering (throwing a cigarette out the window).
Just like with the other search nothing was found. In neither case did the officer conducting the search change gloves after searching one woman before moving on to the other.
