I wasn’t actually the one who used it! which is saying something, really -- I didn’t even see the ouija board in question but it was enough to put me off them for over a decade.
basically when I was a kid my school brought us all on a trip to Wales for a week, which was rad af because we all got to share rooms and there were no parents, yay. some of the older kids, it turned out, had decided to start messing around with a ouija board, and there were also all these rumours about how the hotel was haunted though I’m not sure if that was the case at least before Ouijagate. it’s probably haunted af now but before that happened I’m pretty sure it was just a bunch of us all trying to scare each other.
anyway one night, at like 2am or something, my roommate and I are woken up by the most unholy screaming. it literally sounds like several people are being murdered; you know the awful kind of sheer-terror scream? that, but coming from three people, and in between all the screaming you can also hear loud banging, and something that sounds like heavy furniture being dragged over the floor. we hear loads of running footsteps in the hallway and one of our teachers asking what’s going on, and with a quick glance at one another me and my roommate jump up and go to the door to see wtf is happening out there.
several others are in the hallway and we’re all just as confused as each other, and the way the hallway went was there was my room and the stairs on one side, two rooms opposite, and then to the right there was a hallway at a right angle and there was another room there. we go to the end of this hallway and look in, and the room door there is wide open and the room inside is like. trashed. I mean completely fucking wrecked. all the beds have been dragged into the middle of the room, the pictures on the walls have fallen down, the wardrobe has been pushed over and is leaning against the wall opposite, the desk has been pulled out and the chair pushed over, the mirror is smashed, and most fucked up of all, it looks like there are literal claw marks in the wallpaper. now this is some heavy furniture, and the room was occupied by three 11-year-old girls. there is no way they could have done all that damage, especially not in that short space of time.
we’re all ushered back to our rooms and the next day at breakfast everyone is talking about it. the three girls who were in the room aren’t at breakfast (I think they all went home? I’m not actually sure) so we’re all speculating, and the girls’ remaining friends said that they were going to use a ouija board, and that they were going to wait until everyone was in bed and then try and see if anything was about. a few days later, after being incessantly harassed about whether or not it was true (and the younger kids being really scared), the teacher who had been there actually confirmed that the girls had been using a ouija board, but that it was all nonsense and we shouldn’t worry about it.
the teacher could not explain how three small children managed to overturn a desk, wardrobe, and three bed frames (all solid oak) in like, 15 seconds though, so I’m just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
