Okay I saw Anastasia on Broadway in December and now after having time to let it all sink in (and for the holidays to pass) I’m finally making a post about it! This is going to be a lot so you can click to keep reading under the cut if that’s what your heart desires
okay I saw the evening show on the 22nd and everyone was SO GOOD
this was my first Broadway show so I didn’t really have anything to compare it to but still
literally everyone was absolutely amazing I was blown away
I was sad that Zach Adkins and Max von Essen wouldn’t be there anymore but Cody Simpson and Constantine Germanacos were so so so good I was not let down at all
Christy Altomare was absolutely phenomenal honestly seeing her perform live was a dream come true
Janet Dickinson was on for Countess Lily and she stole the show she was so amazing and animated
the Broadhurst Theatre was a lot smaller than I was anticipating but it made the show so intimate it was really cool
I was in the mezzanine so I could see the whole stage but it was still so close that we could see the sweat on the actors in the first act when they’re all wearing a ton of layers for their costumes
the stage was also small but the set design is amazing and makes the stage seem so much bigger
I loved all the little differences that the actors made from the official recordings of the songs
The Countess and the Common Man is 10 times better watching it omg John Bolton and Janet were sooo animated and hilarious it was so fun to watch
Crowd of Thousands is still my favorite song in the musical I love it
the ballet scene is SO COOL with the parallels between the characters of Swan Lake and Anastasia and the different harmonies wow it was great
LYRICA WOODRUFF IS A QUEEN WOW her dancing in the ballet scene was sooooo good honestly she is so talented
the Still/The Neva Flows reprise is my favorite scene dude it’s so cool with the parallels between past and present with Gleb pointing the gun at Anastasia while behind the windows the soldiers are pointing their guns at the Romanovs
when Anastasia says Dima at the end and needs to step on a suitcase to kiss him IT’S SO CUTE I LOVE THEM
throughout the whole show I noticed the music and instrumentation more than I do with the soundtrack and I love it even more now
I went to the stage door after the show and somehow I got close enough that I could see everyone who came out and got them to sign my playbill!!
they came out 2 at a time and the whole process was so organized it was really cool
okay Delilah is so much smaller in person omg she’s so adorable
Lyrica is so sweet and her signature is also the most legible
Constantine, Janet, and Kelli Youngman also came out and were super nice
before Christy came out the security guy had to give a psa that we had to be quick with our stories and pictures because if not Christy would talk to everyone forever because she’s just too nice
Christy and Cody came out together and they’re both so sweet
whenever someone would show one of them fan art they would stop and show each other it was so cute
I got a picture with Christy and honestly I feel so blessed she’s so so so nice
I legit cried a little bit walking back to the hotel
this was such an amazing experience I still can’t believe I had the chance to see it
Whelp that was a lot longer than expected but I just have a lot of feelings about the show it was so good
