It wasn't the WORST pain Moxxie had ever felt, but the way the heel was pressing down, and the sharp edges were cutting, soon the imp's fangs grit and eyes shut against the discomfort. It broke into full-on pain. Tears formed in his eyes as he looked around frantically for help. Only Velvette's assistants, no doubt contracted souls. He was not stupid. He knew asking them for help would do him no good. And it was better to bite back against some discomfort than to make a scene. This was an overlord. Even Verosika was less of a threat than one of the Vee's. He had to watch his step. Any wrong move could mean an end to his way of life, those he cared about, and all because he couldn't take his tail being hurt.

"Ma'me..." he squeaked. "Please...." he bit back his pride "could you...lift your heel so I could remove my tail for you. I don't want your heel to get blood on it."

He reframed the issue so that it was more about Velvette's comfort than his own. Humiliating? Yes? But better than doing nothing.

When advocating for one's own issue didn't work, appealing to the other person's wants and needs was often the only way a hostage could get what they needed. Survival 101. Being raised by a crime family had taught him that.
