The ringing in Miles’ ears was getting worse - though that probably just in his own head since he kept focusing on it - and he had misplaced his headphones. He didn’t have the cash for new ones and he didn’t want to steal any. Sure, he boosted cars, but that was different. He never intended to keep any of the cars.
Miles sat on the curb, eyes closed and fingers against his neck to try to focus on his pulse, or really anything but the awful sound in his ears. He’d been there for what felt like hours when he felt someone touch his shoulder. He instantly jumped up at the unexpected feeling. The girl who had touched him looked familiar, though he couldn’t quite place her. Maybe he’d seen her at the record store or in one of the foster homes he’d been put in. He couldn’t exactly be sure. He cleared his throat and “ Yea? “
