Judd Ryder for the send a character thing

First impression: I thought he was a cowboy. I really thought he'd be stubborn and traditional and a downright bigot.

Impression now: honestly, he's stubborn BUT HOW DID I EVER THINK THIS TEDDY BEAR WOULD BE A BIGOT?????

Favorite moment: it's a tie between the moment he breaks down for the first time in the first season, after therapy, and when Charlie was born.

Idea for a story: anything to do with his family time. How he lives with Wyatt and Charlie and Grace. I love him being all a family man.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think it's unpopular. I just think his hand tattoos are way too big, but that's just me. And it's not even an opinion per se...

Favorite relationship: his love story with Grace and his friendship with Tommy.

Favorite headcanon: he entered the Fire Academy because it was an imposition from his father, since he's allegedly had a difficult childhood, and then stayed because he really really really loves to help.

7. What inspired the idea for the plot?

The entire thing was prompted by a post @trkstrnd made. I can't even remember what the post was now, all I remember is that I saw it and almost immediately the plot started coming together in my head.

11. Was there a scene that you hadn’t originally planned to include? Why did you decide to fit it in?

The only one I can think of is the scene with Nancy and TK in the diner the morning after she calls Carlos Dr. Jerkface. I put it in because I needed something to transition from that to the OD scene and I just really like the idea of them having a regular diner where they go before or after shifts, and because I wanted a scene to just write them. I love their friendship, both in fic and what we're starting to get in canon.

12. Was there a scene you wished you could have included? Why didn’t it fit in?

Maybe some more filler, either another scene of them getting to know each other or some more 126 content. Maybe even some more Carlos with the 126 content. It could have fit in, but the fic is already 22.7k and I was running out of steam. So some things had to be sacrificed for my sanity.

20. What is something you wish more people noticed about this fic?

I really can't think of anything. I am very proud of this fic and everything in it, but it is also probably one of my best-received fics of all time so I can't think of anything I haven't heard about it that I would like to. Maybe that it has a sequel, if they haven't found that?

@reyescarlos It has truly felt like Kim and I have known each other forever. I adore her a lot. I spend almost every day talking with her and it is just such an absolute blessing. First of all, she is such a kind, funny and positive person. Talking fandom with her is always so amazing and I'm so glad that I get to have her in my life. Second of all, her writing? Absolute poetry. She is so so talented and she has written some of my favourite fics. My fics would also be nothing without her, she is one of two people that always gets to have first viewings of my WIPs and she is always there to hear my next crazy idea for an AU. Her support means the world to me and I am so glad that I got the chance to meet her. If only there wasn't an entire border between us, I'd annoy her every day in person.

@pragmatic-optimist Sonia is also one of those people I feel like I could have known forever. We talk almost every day and it's always such a gift, no matter what we are talking about. She is such a beautiful soul, I don't know what I would do without her wisdom and her advice. She is also so funny and kind, I love her spirit so much. She is also the other person that gets to have first viewings of my fics and she is always so supportive whenever I throw and idea or snippet at her or even if I ask her to read an entire fic that I'm unsure of. It means so much to me. She also has the best thoughts when it comes to fandom and I really enjoy getting to chat with her and hear them. I'm so glad we took the jump and started talking with one another. I would also like to cross the border to annoy her. I just adore her so much.

@ronenrubinstein Bonnie is such a lovely person. One day we decided we liked the same show and we just jumped right into a conversation and haven't stopped since. Despite there being a huge time difference because she's from the future, we always find time to reply to one another and continue on the conversation as if it didn't even stop. I'm so glad that we discovered each other and started talking, it is always so great to chat with her. She is just a wonderful presence, full of kindness and warmth and just so easy to talk with. She also never falters with her support, no matter what and I love that about her.

thank you so much for this! i needed it tonight. a lot of things have started looking up for me this month, after most of this year was cascading health problems and an inability to do anything but survive.

but another (luckily familiar and thus fixable) health problem recurred badly tonight in a way that means feeding cats and taking out trash knocked me down and i had to sleep through a whole movie just to be able to sit up again.

i want to make grilled cheese for dinner and have no idea how long it'll take me to recover enough spoons for that, and i was having a few days before this of great creative thinking and i miss it! all i can do right now is listen to podcasts/music and sip fizzy water.

so, yeah. this was a nice mood lift in my night. i appreciate you too! <3 i love when you tag me in things i can save to fill out later, and i enjoy seeing all your fic updates. i hope you're surviving this holiday season so far.

I was gonna ask about made to watch cause angst, but Grace fic?

the grace fic has so much angst, don't worry.

it's a prompt sent in by an anon but honestly i've thought about this one so much that i genuinely want it (or something like it) to happen on the show. essentially, they're in the middle of a storm and judd has asked tk to watch over grace (tk isn't at work because he was an idiot and hurt himself - only a minor injury). and because they all have terrible luck, grace goes into labour and shortly after phone signal cuts out. so tk has to deliver the baby and it's very chaotic and panicked and there's a lot of angst, but everything's okay with baby ryder and grace in the end

I remember Daniel Gillies did The Originals in Atlanta and Saving Hope in Toronto at the same time, flying back and forth, so it's doable. He eventually left one show to spend more time with his family but a movie isn't years worth and Rob's kids are older so I don't really see this being much of an issue tbh, apart from potential covid restrictions, he might just lead less episodes. So hopefully more balanced episodes as far as screen time goes.

that’s what i figure too… like it’s not impossible but it would be incredibly hard to give 100% to both, especially since he’s also involved behind the scenes in both. the screen time at least for the first few episodes of s3 will be very interesting.
