A cute idea is that since Brea has made all these detailed official illustrations in her journal, what if she also makes these simple cute little doodles leaving them for SkekTek to find and brighten their day. And since SkekTek is skilled with their hands and would like to leave her nice things, they take small pieces of paper and carefully folds them into lovely little shapes and objects. (If origami isn't a thing on Thra, they're gonna change that) while Brea just adores them.

Oh my god this is absolutely adorable, and brightens my day too! No small scrap of paper is safe from Brea, if there’s enough space to draw three lines she will use it to make art for her partner. And skekTek doing the equivalent of origami is so so good, I love that so much! They don’t often take to things that are fiddly and don’t have a particular use, but for some reason they find doing that kind of tedious folding to be very soothing, and the way that Brea smiles when she sees those little creations is just icing on the cake. Brea has one that folds easily into a flat shape, and she keeps it in her pocket. Sometimes she finds herself running her thumb over the folds when she feels anxious, and it helps calm her down.

[cracks knuckles] consider: breatek where skektek accidentally gets something Painful & Potentially Damaging in their good eye, & brea helps them wash it out while keeping them from panicking over the thought of losing it. they can't see super well for a short while after, so she has them curl up with their head in her lap, & they whine softly while she strokes their head. they end up dozing off; when they wake up their eye is sore but working again, & they're huffy and embarrassed about it all.

VERY FUCKING GOOD. I love that shit omg... yeah skekTek is real antsy about their eye and gets easily worked up about it, and since Brea knows it’s a trigger for them she goes out of her way to be more delicate and soothing about it, rather than tamping her foot down and telling them to calm down like she might be inclined to with skekOk, for example, or with Tek when they’re just being a Jerk for no reason. She also is super aware of the sensory stuff they don’t like, and is extra careful to avoid that stuff while they’re already worked up. She might tease them a little bit when they’ve recovered and are being sheepish about it, but she knows not to take it too far.

HC: Brea and skekTek are both the sort who get entirely absorbed in their research (scholarly and scientific, respectively). They'll spend hours at a time in the same room, without seeming to even acknowledge each other's presence as they each work. And yet on more than one occasion Brea will start searching for a specific tome and skekTek will call out its location to her, or skekTek will be looking for a tool and Brea will turn to hand it to him, with neither of them saying a word.

I love this so much, it’s so good!! One of the main appeals of BreaTek to me is that they’re both very intelligent folks who can get really focused on their particular Thing, and so them working in the same space and really being absorbed in their work while still having an awareness of the other and their needs is... 😔👌 Especially good because there isn’t necessarily a whole lot of overlap in their projects, Tek being more on the engineering side of things and Brea focusing more on historical research, but their awareness of the other’s needs shows that they’re both paying attention and listening when the other is infodumping.

Yooooooo I can't believe there's someone else who's considered skektek x brea! I've become a little disillusioned with skekok and brea ever becoming close even in fanon (specifically because of the stonewood battle scene where he literally tries to cut her down ^^') but i still think skektek and brea is an intriguing concept

first of all, AYYYYYYY ANOTHER BREATEK SHIPPER, HI THERE, i’ve been talking a lot to friends about it on discord but wow i didn’t think i’d find one anywhere else :D

that’s valid about breok! i have a lot of thoughts about how bad the skeksis got by the end of s1 compared to where they were at the beginning; how much the essence was responsible for; and how far gone they were beforehand; and i do think the plot of the show significantly changed the would-be dynamic between them by the time he tries to kill her. (especially considering that skektek also tried to kill her and her at-the-time remaining family, whoops.) 

but also i agree, it would be vanishingly unlikely for breok to have a dynamic that wasn’t dubious as hell at best, even if the series hadn’t happened. it would take either an au version of skekok that’s enough steps left of canon to end up on a different continent, or an au where a miracle happens and events work out so that everyone involved–especially skekok–works hard as fuck for their happy ending. and only manages that much because the messy, painful character development happened before any of the opportunities for him to jump off the slippery slope show up that he would have taken otherwise. any soft, fluffy breok content that i like otherwise appeals to me a lot because of how unexpected it is in the context of, and how it contrasts with, everything else that’s Really Fucked Up about the situation just under the surface. 

BUT! more about that is a subject for other posts. in the meantime, breatek! 

first off, obviously, i like this ship a lot because they’re Nerds, and also because brea has Big Top Energy and that’s kind of what he needs in a partner right now which is something i’d go more into detail with on my nsfw fandom blog, @stricklanderpls, if you want to hit me up there.

they also both come across as different flavors of autistic to me, so they would find a lot of Same Hat in each other that they tend not to get from other people. they fully understand each other’s sensory issues and how to listen to each other to learn to accommodate for them (even if they don’t share all of the same ones), they’re both pretty blunt and straightforward and not given to pretense (unless it’s learned things like skektek’s cowering from the emperor), they’re both strongly drawn to nonsapient or non-humanoid things (skektek’s animals, brea and lore), the obvious special interests they have (which are devalued and derided by other people in their lives, skektek especially), being highly analytical and focused on Finding Solutions (’every problem has a solution,’ anyone?), the list goes on. they’d click surprisingly well over a lot of things that other people look down on or just Don’t Get.

(also, i headcanon seladon as autistic as well, and i think on some level brea feels drawn to skektek because he actually reminds her a lot of seladon. she feels guilty about a lot of things in her relationship with her sister, and in many ways skektek feels like an opportunity to make up for that by being there for someone she can actually stand in the ways that she just can’t do for seladon.)

also… honestly… they bring out the sweet in each other. brea is just. so open and affectionate and full of wonder, and she will say so just as much as she will speak her mind about anything else. when she’s fascinated by the things skektek makes, when she praises or compliments him, when she enjoys his company, it’s all genuine. her excitement when he gives her some strange little gift he made is genuine. her throwing herself at him for a hug, or pulling his snout down to kiss his nose, is genuine. skektek is starved for appreciation, validation, and affection, for connecting to another person, and brea is so absolutely overflowing with that that he barely knows what to do with it except soak it all in, and do everything he can to make her smile.

meanwhile, brea not only finds it a huge relief to be able to connect with someone who she can understand and who can understand her, but someone who shares and appreciates her thirst for knowledge, the things that she loves. to borrow terms from fandom, she’s more curative about knowledge, and he’s more transformative about it, but they share that joy in it just the same. on top of that he can be surprisingly kind, sweet, and meek for someone who’s as grouchy as he is most of the time, and she treasures that he shows that side of himself to her with the same wonder as every other hidden thing she seeks out to see for herself.

the affection she shows him he returns ten times over, and vice versa. they just love each other so much, man, listen 

there’s a lot more, and also BOY that’s before you get into all the issues to unpack, lordy. but breatek makes me smile a whole damn lot and i will gladly drag as many other people as possible into it with me as i can

ayyy have a snippet of some breatek i've been writing on and off since i got prompted for it last night on the discord server, it's one of my fave rarepairs for this show and i'm determined to suck people in

"I'm not a childling," she says, trying to keep her voice even.

SkekTek peers at her around his shoulder, squinting. "What is a 'childling?'"

Brea blinks, taken aback. "You--what?"

"I am not sure how you expect me to rephrase the question."

She can't tell if he's snitting at her or not. She supposes it can't hurt to answer. "I... they're gelfling, small gelfling. They--haven't been alive long yet, so they don't know what they're doing. And they need to be protected, and cared for." She grimaces. "And guided."

SkekTek pauses.

"Ah," he says. "I had forgotten." And with that he turns back to his table.

Brea stares at his back. Sometimes she forgets how very old and strange he is. How very not gelfling. She can't decide whether that's a bad thing or not.

*Rips your door off its hinges* MORE BREATEK HCS??? They're both very particular about their workstations, and very protective about each other's. Brea's in the room alone, someone comes in to talk to her; they push some of Tek's stuff aside to sit in his chair, she instantly goes, "DON'T TOUCH THAT! It's just how he likes it!" and shoos them into a spare seat instead.

OH NO THIS IS SO GOOD!!! They’re both very aware of each other and the way that the other works, and while their methods may seem really bizarre and roundabout to an outsider (and even to each other a lot of the time) they are both very Same Hat about needing everything to stay as they left it, otherwise the first hour+ of work will be extremely stressful because they need to put everything back the way they had it before someone messed it up. They also have become very familiar with the way that the other stores commonly used objects, so if the other needs to borrow something for any reason it’s easy enough to put it back in the exact way that the other likes it.

Also they both have pretty cluttered workstations lmao, it’s a pretty unfriendly space for the vast majority of people who might wander in there.
