Brendan found Raven stuck in a hunter’s trap and took him home to nurse him back to health. Garroth is lonely despite having a god-husband (it’s different from the mortal concept hence the distinction) so obviously when a pretty farmer saves his beloved companion he starts showering him with blessings.

Brendan tries to offer most of the riches he finds in his fields back to Garroth because he doesn’t want to hoard it, which makes Garroth get real upset because it was intended to be a reward. He pops down in mortal form to return it to him and of course Brendan decides to flirt with him when they start talking.
