Benedict decided to learn how to play the violin. Even more impressive is that he accomplished this great feat in only one week. He did this because he wanted the scene to seem real and authentic, not just him pretending to play. His teacher, Eos Chater, was impressed with him and has even said Benedict would be a good violinist if he pursued it.
