wait 😭 hang on 😭 are you telling me that ed hardwicke's actual real life birthday is august 7th, the same day that william s. baring-gould decided would be john watson's birthday in his 1962 biography of sherlock holmes ... widely adopted by the fandom birthday of fictional character john watson ,,
plsss I think it's so funny that watsonswap happened because Jeremy Brett told David Burke they for sure should not do a second series, it would be terrible for their careers to keep going. and then based on that, david mega promised his wife he'd be done with filming in manchester after series 1. and then jeremy changed his mind and also probably forgot he ever said that and was like wait!! why don't you want to do series 2! I'm devastated!
Watching Granada Holmes and oh boy, the gender envy these Victorian gentlemen are giving me is UNBELIEVABLE
I was doing some research for Wikipedia, and I came across this quote from Jeremy Brett:
”I`ve never been so fired up in my life,” said Brett, who confessed that he was eager to return to England, but mostly so he could resume work on the remaining Holmes stories.
”Were finishing the Doyle canon,” he said. ”Weve done 34 stories, which means we have another 24 to go. So I shall finish about 1995.”
Which made me sad, because he never got to complete the canon.
But on a happier note, it does appear that he did love playing Holmes, from the same artilce:
The prospect of devoting another four years to ”S.H.” was hardly dispiriting, said the 56-year-old actor, whose Shakespearean credits are almost as extensive as his Sherlockian.
”I am so unbelievably, blissfully spoilt at the moment,” he explained.
”This part was an extraordinary gift, which has sustained me through my 40s and 50s.
