Ten years. A whole decade since the UK voted to leave the European Union — a moment that split families, reshaped politics, and sent shockwaves far beyond our borders. For me, it was also the day a very different kind of shockwave hit: the release of the film I wrote and directed for Arte France and Autour de Minuit.
It was a film born out of chaos, confusion, and the surreal theatre of that political moment. And when it came out… well, let’s just say it didn’t exactly slip quietly into the world. Some of the audience loved it. Some absolutely did not. In fact, some people wanted me to be locked up as I was “trying to use humour to defeat democracy”.
But here we are, ten years later. And I find myself asking: how do we feel about it now?
The films featured the genius of Simon Spillsbury, Jean Boht, Nico Schmerkin, Abigail Addison and Carl Davis to name a few.
