Went to Brian Butterick's aka Hattie Hathaway's memorial service and it was simply fabulous and more than a bit sad. During those early eighties in alphabet city people like Hattie were people that made their scenes worthy of being called "a scene". For all those drag queens who strutted their stuff at the Pyramid, Jackie 60, the Roxy and eventually Wigstock, Hattie Hathaway wasn't just one of them freaks that didn't just fit in perfectly with the rest of the freaks that populated the Lower East Side back then, but actively took part in all it's glory. Fly your freak flag high up there in Valhalla Hattie 😉, no one deserves it more 😎 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #HattieHathaway #BrianButterick #Valhalla #DragQueens #DragQueenHistory #LGBT #LGBTQ #LGBTHistory #LES #LowerEastSide #AlphabetCity #Manhattan #NYC #ThePyramid #Jackie60 #TheRoxy #Wigstock #DavidBowie #ThePrettiestStar #EllenStewartTheatre https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv9s6zMgoXq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fy2y58t7onok
