Unpopular opinion

I would like to put it on record that I really, REALLY, dislike the film versions of Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfayden) and Brideshead Revisited (with Ben Wishaw and Matthew Goode).

How, when you have the 1995 version of P&P and the 1981 of BR, turn to such insipid, slight productions. How can anyone accept the lost puppy looks of Macfayden’s Darcy when you’ve got the deep and brooding Colin Firth to compare to. Or the incredibly stupid portrayal of Bingley. I’ve got less of a problem with the characterisation in BR, although I felt that Julia was entirely sidelined and Emma Thompson was entirely too young to play Lady Marchmain.

They are deep, detailed, books and deserve more than a 90 minute treatment. They deserve to be looked at carefully, as the TV adaptations do. Ok, so use the films as a jumping off point, but go back to the TV versions, because you’ll find so many gems hidden within. The scores, for both of them, are absolutely wonderful too.

oh my god!!! boy mulcaster makes them go to a seedy club when they’re down in london and at first they feel awkward and uncomfortable but they stick to the bar and have a few drinks and soon they’re talking and giggling while boy goes and tries to hook up with someone and then sebastian is pulling charles onto the dancefloor and they’re dancing and before they even realise what’s happening they’re kissing
