Main Verse:

Selena could never leave the past behind or buried in the grave where it should be. Instead, she had allowed it to shackle her heart and her mind. Her memories haunts her in her waking hours and greets her with sharp claws whenever her eyes should finally close for a brief rest. If a poor soul should attempt to wake her from her needed rest, her survival instinct kicks in and wake up, but not fully awake. She would attempt to attack and very likely kill them without any conscious thought all while being mistaken for being attacked herself.

From experience, the past had a way of finding her again like a predator hunting down its prey. One can easily say that it’s come back to bite her but it would be not of her own accord. Given Selena’s driven need to guard and defend Hope Village as well as her own history with that world, this outcome is inevitable.

Despite unaware whom were and weren’t her enemies, she still has made them, unintentionally or not. Selena did not wish anyone to get hurt due to their affiliation with her or in an attempt to help her.  Unintended casualties are a possibility and why potential acquaintances and friends were kept at a distance. Isolating herself so she would take the full brunt while they can at least escape with their sanity and their lives. There was no need to mourn for one life while it was the price that could save many; a price she willingly paid.

College Verse: 

Her family history is something she’d love to forget. Selena had already learned from her family’s quirks and failures. She had fought tooth and nail to move away to the farthest city and with a college that had accepted her application. As much as this college student loved her family, there was only so much she could take before enough was enough.

To begin forgetting, Selena immediately hunted down and obtained a job she could tolerate. A simple clerk of a run-down bookshop, it was a job that the young woman surprisingly enjoyed. The employee perks of being able to pick up a book, textbook or fantasy fiction, for a discounted price has its value. 

However, it was work that she drowned herself in. On top of schoolwork and studying for classes, Selena barely has time for herself and her family miles away and it was alright with her as long as she forgot their troubles. A worried phone call conversation with her little sister would suffice any need to check up on them but she did not attend any family gatherings or kept in contact with them. The woman was already embarrassed enough to be associated with them and she was sure that they felt the same about her.
