In vedic astrology there are many types of remedies and understanding which remedy will work the best for a particular horoscope needs a very deep understanding of vedic astrology. Here I used the word understanding and not knowledge because many people have got very good knowledge of vedic astrology but their understanding is very much limited. So apart from good knowledge, deep understanding of it is very important.
The answer to this question is not straightforward YES or NO type and so it needs to be understood. I will try to explain it step by step.
In order to learn about the challenging dashas / mahadashas one need to study the significance of that ruing planet.
After learning about the significances of the mahadasha ruling planet the astrologer learned about the events / agendas of the ruling mahadasha / dasha planet during its ruling period.
The events can be positive or negative depends on the significance of the ruling mahadasha planet. Here we are interested to learn about the negative events that are challenging.
Reader to know that ruling mahadasha planet do not have power to give a result of an event on its own unless it is also promised in the horoscope level.
When the event is promised in the horoscope level and mahadasha planet is also signifying the same event in its ruling period then that event will happen during that period.
So one need to study all the promises of all the negative events signified by the ruling mahadasha planet.
If a negative event is not promised in the horoscope level and its is only signifying in the dasha level which is reflecting challenges then in this cases astrological remedies can be used to improve and minimize the negative impact of the dasha ruling planet.
If a negative event is promised in the horoscope level and it is also signifying in the dasha level which is reflecting challenges then in this case one need to get aligned as per the need of the horoscope in order to minimize the negative impact of the dasha ruling planet. This is also a kind of vedic astrology remedy.
Getting aligned with the horoscope is a very big topic and there are various ways to get aligned and the number of events in our life is about thousands and so it is not possible to discuss about all the alignment techniques in one small astrology articles.
Although I will discuss it with example for readers to understand the meaning of getting aligned with horoscope.
EXAMPLE :
Suppose in a horoscope the mahadasha / dasha ruling planet is signifying 6 and 12th house signification in a strong way and it is also promised in the horoscope level. Then one knows that 6th house signify litigation, quarrel, disease / illness, enemy etc negative events. And 12th house signify loss, loneliness, jail, hospital etc negative events.
There can be possible event in combination of this two significance of 6th and 12th house and it can be disease / illness and hospitalization.
Litigation / quarrel and fight with enemy can land in jail.
Quarrel can lead to loneliness
Enmity with someone can lead to heavy loss. Etc etc etc
These are few negative events that can be predicted from this combination of the significances.
Now to nullify this negative impact and have positive impact from it, one need to obey and respect the saying of horoscope during this ruling period, and that called getting aligned with the horoscope.
The native having such challenges during his mahadasha / dasha ruling period can take up a job in abroad and do lead a very happy life.
Job is also seen from 6th house and abroad / foreign land is also seen from 12th house.
By getting aligned with the horoscope need, the native utilized the most negative 6th and 12th house in a very positive way.
If this is seen in upcoming mahadasha period for a student then that student can plan his study in medicine and during the activation of that 6th and 12th house mahadasha period he will become a doctor and treat ill patients in hospital.

I know that the said example may not work for every person and that is the reason I always tell that every horoscope is unique and so the alignment is always custom made and it will vary from person to person as per their horoscope.
