Citrus Velvet: Matte Lime Lids and Creamy Orange Lips
Matte lime is a surprisingly beautiful shade on many skintones, and while it's by no means a natural looking color, it's fab when you need a bright pop on the lids. Here are 2 slightly different ways you can wear it without changing the products used. One the regular look on the left, and one the very dramatic 60's Twiggy style doll eye.
I used 3-4 of the lime green shades in the 88 original palette (I mixed them all up) but you can use any lime, like MAC Bitter shadow or equivalent shades from brands like Sugar Pill or Lime Crime if you already have them.
A matte lime colored shadow (88 original palette)
A matte strong green shadow (88 original palette)
A dark brown matte shadow (88 original palette)
White pencil (I used Revlon's Matte white khol)
Black gel or liquid liner (Maybelline Lasting Drama in Black)
Mascara (L'oreal Voluminous in Blackest Black)
Orange/red blush (I used NYX Cinnamon)
Orange lipstick (I used Lime Crime My Beautiful Rocket)
Eye and skin-color wise, anything goes. If you have green and blue eyes, this is likely to make them look a little more grey, but that's about it. If you have very dark skin, you might want to use a slightly stronger green or even a pearlescent texture and avoid anything that is too pale and pastel.
Step 1: First apply the shadow in a semi-circle. Spread it quite high and extend this past the socket line until it almost reaches the brow on the inner arc.
Then mix a touch of a deeper green in with the lime shade and apply that just to the outer corners for a little dimension.
Step 1 ver2.0: [Only for mono-lids and hooded lids] Blend the mixture of lime and a deeper green out slightly at the outer socket so you have a slightly longer, more winged shape instead.
Step 2: If you are going with the dramatic 60's look, here's where you take a flat brush and use just the tips to apply an arc of brown along the socket line, ABOVE THE CREASE from outside in. Stop before you reach the inner corners, or you risk closing up your entire eye.
Don't worry about getting it perfect in one go. You will need to slowly even out and build up the line.
Then (IMPORTANT FOR BOTH LOOKS), run the brown along the outer half of the lower lash line.
Step 3: Line the upper lash line with thick black liner, extending into the slightest wing at the outer corners. Then apply your mascara generously to top and bottom lashes.
If you are going for the "regular" look, I recommend wearing false lashes if you can. This helps to give a doll-like effect that goes great with this type of look.
Along the lower lash line, apply white pencil. The white pencil should be applied last because you don't want to smudge or spot it with mascara. The combination of the white pencil on the inner rims and the brown shadow and mascara along the lash line creates the illusion of a wider, rounder eye.
You don't need to stick with orange but I really like the whole acidic citrus theme so I threw on an orange blush AND a bright juicy-orange lipstick.
If you aren't confident about wearing such a strong shade, use an orange or coral gloss!
