i just got caught up on his blog, thank you for reminding me that that existed actually😳
every franchise has its ruts, i think – it happened with marvel, it happened with star wars, and it’s happened to a lot of other franchises. as much as it pains me to see the muppets becoming less of a priority for disney and more of a group of stale figureheads, it happens. but disney has the wrong attitude about it.
changing performers won’t fix anything. firing steve won’t fix anything. making things kid-friendly won’t change anything. disney’s handled the muppets very capably since about 2009 up until now, but that was because they let the performers guide the franchise. they let honest fans like jason segel and james bobin put their names out there for the sake of creating something that has that distinct muppety magic to it. they left the performers to their characters. and that was great!
but, however, since the tv show came out and then bombed they feel like they have to step up and make changes and tell the performers “we make the rules and we know the characters better than you! fuck you!”
to them these are just kids characters, even though they claim to be a “family” entertainment company. that’s what i think, at least. they’re doing what they did to the muppets back in 2004 to 2008 – shoving them in a closet and forgetting about them until they can make money again. and it’s shitty! i realize they’re a business and all, but it’s a shitty thing to do to a fanbase and an especially shitty thing to do to steve!
this is all over the place and rambly as all hell but i’m just sad that this happened. i’m sad that it’s 2004 all over again.
