Part 4 of 4 - Day in Brighton
More pics from my trip to Brighton!
When I had mentioned that I was going to Brighton, my Stage Manager Zoe, decided to come with me. She hadn't been in a few years and wanted to go back. It was so nice to have someone with me to explain some of the sights.
Our first stop was the beach and we came upon a cute little side shop selling fresh seafood. Like I said, I'm a big seafood fan and one of the items I'd never heard of before, were cockles. Cockles are small shellfish found buried in the sand, and raked in during low tide. They are abundant along the British coastline and very popular at Seafood stalls that sell many fresh seafood items. Growing up eating them as a kid, Zoe said they reminded her of her Grandma. We ate them fresh with a little vinegar and they were delicious!
The next few pics are of the colorful homes built within The Lanes. They are so sweet and look so cozy to live in. But after walking around this cute town, I could tell the price tag of these homes were on the high end. I looked up some online and they can run up in the million dollar price range. In the closeup pic of the blue painted home, you can see a window like cover on the ground & an L shaped black iron piece next to the front steps. Zoe informed me that the covered part on the ground, was originally used to shove coal down into the home & the L shaped iron piece was to scrape the bottom of your boots before entering. I love that the older buildings here in the UK, preserve and keep their old finishings. It makes them so unique :) (take note America!)
Zoe and I finished our Sunday with a glass of vino and a meal. It was my first proper Sunday Roast! I definitely need to bring this tradition home with me! I love the idea of ending your work week , surrounded by friends and a nice big meal! They were out of roast beef, so I opted for the chicken option - and I was not disappointed! But what I was most excited about, was the Yorkshire Pudding - and it was gooooood. I need to learn how to make this, especially for the upcoming Holidays.
I didn't buy much at all during our day in Brighton, but I did manage to come home with some bags. I bought a few small gifts, a Cath Kidston card holder, a vintage onesie, & some chocolate! All in all my day off was really great and it made me excited to see even more of this beautiful country.
Thanks for reading and look out for my next post in a few days!
xx Jenny
