poe wonders a lot if his parents are proud of him. he hasnt written his dad since he got promoted and he hasn't visited mom for even longer but he's too scared to get around and do those things because hes worried /they're/ going to be worried about him and the last thing poe wants to do is make them hurt more,, when he gets taken by kylo and stormtroopers are beating him the fuck up he says "i'm sorry" w every hit they land and when he's just lying there strapped to a bastardized metal skeleton

of a chair and something tells him that ren's coming too and poe jus knows that he's really gonna fucking die here after failing leia w one of the most important missions hes ever been given, so he thinks of his parents and a mother he hasn't met & his dad who he hasn't talked to since he left for the navy and. god. he thinks about them and all the stuff he left unspoken and knows that everything he's done, he's done his best at, and he hopes that they're proud to call him their son and he can somehow make up for the ways that he failed as their kid so when ren's in his head he tries to keep him away by asking "are you proud of who i've become" and "i don't know how else to repay you" and "please look out for me when i come home". then, very quietly, words he hasn't said in yrs: "i love you, i miss you. i'll see you soon."
