well, I looked at their definition of "fiction", but it's not very clear on whether fanfiction is okay or not, cause I've got a great idea including my otps, but I can write it without them but I'd need a whole lot more planning so my question is, is fanfiction okay? or should I steer clear and invent my own characters? thanks (:

I did nano as a fanfic one year--Sisters Grimm, I STILL want to finish that story five years out--so you're in the clear. I know several people who have! It's about writing 50,000 words with a bunch of other people doing the same harebrained thing and not about what you actually produce. nano doesn't actually publish or make money, so fanfic is all above board.

hi! did you participate in nanowrimo, ever? I have a question :3

I've tried to do it two years--my freshman and sophomore years of high school. I never managed to complete it. My junior year I realized I'm not the sort of writer who can write straight through 50,000 words without revising a lot (which is really the sort of author you need to be for nanowrimo) and I haven't done it since. I've served as a sounding board, an editor, and a cheerleader for a few different people the past three years tho, and I think I'll do the same again this year, but I don't believe I'll be writing.

Now that I've given you a long story that you don't want, what's your question? :)
