Yes, totally! Pat blindsides him with this 20th century concept and he just freezes. I mean, he’s had experience of addressing an audience while he was alive, but it’s hardly the same prospect. However Thomas loves to show off and he clearly knows radio ads – I bet Heather Button had the radio on all the time to keep her company in that big old empty house.

It’s actually the same joke twice really. Just like Mary was flummoxed by the film camera but then rapidly developed a flair for directing, Thomas gapes at the microphone before sliding smoothly into cheesy broadcaster mode. Lovingly thumbed indeed.
