The World Is Amazing, Actually Pt10
Stopped doing these for a bit because life, but hey, here we are and I’m somehow simultaneously reading the news, cleaning my bathroom, and working through the weekend, and also making this post. Because fuck it, the world does not deserve to burn.
Today’s Wild Place Phenomenon (The Earth is an alien planet):
“The icy finger of death,” aka a “brinicle,” is a “a downward-growing hollow tube of ice enclosing a plume of descending brine that is formed beneath developing sea ice.” (Basically, the ocean will occasionally just stretch down a cold finger and say “and fuck you in particular.”)
Today’s Feat of Engineering (Look! At What! We Made!):
Laerdal Tunnel is a road tunnel that is built within the Hornsnipa and Jeronnosi mountains. The tunnel runs through solid gneiss rock for 15 miles. The design incorporated inputs from psychologists to make the 20-minute drive through the mountain “stimulating.”
Today’s Art (It is human nature to seek and create beauty):
Lonac’s art, specifically their wall murals, are detailed, interesting in perspective and content, and generally kinda pretty.
Today’s Act of Humanity (we are okay):
The Grand Canyon Trust is to “safeguard the wonders of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado Plateau, while supporting the rights of its Native peoples.” It’s basically an indigenous people’s nonprofit organization designed to protect the southwest USA’s environments through sustainable and humane methods.
