im still salty that pokemon swsh removed half the pokemon from the base game and sold it back to players and got away with it
So, let me get this straight- with Pokemon Home, Game Freak are encouraging us to freeze our Pokemon in a lifeless, unusable state of storage to keep them ‘safe’ for the future.
Now where have I heard something like that before?
Introducing The “Pokemon Rescue Team”, Specialists In Saving Pokemon From Older Games This video is no longer available.
"Pokemon isn't just a game, the first Pokemon you select, the friends you've played with, how much you got into it, what we're rescuing are the 'Special Memories' and letting everyone enjoy Pokemon forever."
Originally posted in November 2018, after the release of USUM, at some point this video was removed from the Pokemon Japan Youtube channel. What happened between then and now to disregard the core message that resonates with so many people? That Pokemon are important to us, we have found meaning in the bits of data and pixels which become unique and special to each person who goes on an adventure with them.
Game Freak : We can't put all the previous Pokemon in this game
Pokefans : Why ?

Predictably, people are throwing around the word “entitled” when it comes to video games again, and the Pokemon fandom was already notorious for telling people to “shut up and be grateful for what you have”.
NO.
It isn’t “entitled” to expect quality for the MONEY YOU ARE SPENDING ON A PRODUCT. It isn’t entitled to expect a product creator to keep up their end of a transaction. Sword and Shield are actually going to cost more money for less content. Players are expected to spend $60 on the game, then pay an extra recurring fee to use the online functionality, which has always been free in past games, and then you are expected to pay recurring for Pokemon Home on top of that if you want to get your Pokemon off of the 3DS before it dies. From Home, the Pokemon have nowhere to go, as the trip from 3DS to Home is one way. You must then keep paying for Home and hope that in the next 2-4 years, the rest of your collection is able to be transferred to the next games. Due to the new GF policy of scrubbing the Pokemon data for each game going forward, that is not promised. Your collection will get splintered across several generations, with Home being the only app where they are confirmed to be all in one place, and the cost is recurring. There is no promise that Sword and Shield have to be compatible with Gen 4 remakes or whatever comes next, so hoarding parts of your collection on a cartridge and hoping for trading to save you isn’t even necessarily viable. And even in the trading scenario, you have to still pay for the Switch Online subscription, so you’re being charged extra either way.
Meanwhile, at E-FUCKING-3, we have been shown pivoting models, like back in Gen 6 on the 3DS. We have been shown that the older Pokemon models were all imported from 3DS and still have their same animations. We have been shown that there are still generic attack animations. We have been shown models popping into existence, some with massive lag. We have been shown lighting errors on terrain and trees. WE HAVE BEEN SHOWN WINGULLS T-POSING, PIVOTING, AND SLIDING ACROSS THE MAP. I AM NOT PAYING $60 FOR THAT. If they couldn’t handle it, they should have delayed the game to make it better, or reduced the price to match what they were able to produce. And if Nintendo was pressuring them into a release this year, then this is their fault, too. There is no excuse for the mess that was shown, and then having the Dex get cut just to even reach that quality. DELAY THIS GAME.
the difference between a good game director and a lazy producer. Morimoto gaves us the best games in the franchise, meanwhile, Junichi Masuda keeps lowering the bar for what to expect for the Pokémon games. This is not how you should make games, remember they keep raising the price too. This is not fair for Pokémon fans and people that buy the games expecting games like HGSS and BW.
Let’s take a minute to appreciate the benefits of Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra:
Save $10 - $30 by not having to buy a third version.
Arguably more new content than a third version would have anyway, considering it’s all new adventure and no retread.
Data for 200 older Pokemon that is a free download for all players, extending the Galar Dex to 600 by the end of the year.
More new Pokemon than UltraSun and UltraMoon introduced.
Now consider the downsides. The Gigantamax Starters weren’t in the original game. Except, we’ve never had new forms for new gen starters before, at all. Maybe you could argue that if we had Mega Forms for Kanto and Hoenn starters, we should have gotten these, but honestly, it’s a thin argument.
Then there’s the fact that this content costs money. Should it cost money? Well, paid DLC comes with some expectations. It should be:
1) New. These are new areas, there are new Pokemon, characters, and quests.
2) Distinct from the main game. The Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra have a stylistic direction that is distinct from mainland Galar. They’re based on places other than just England.
3) Separate from the main story of the game. It doesn’t seem like a piece of Sword and Shield that was gated off and resold as DLC. Granted, if I had to guess, I’d say this kind of happened with the legendary birds and Regis, which could have originally been planned as filler for the Sword and Shield postgame the same way X/Y had the legendary birds, but I doubt they were going to make Galarian Forms for them until it became DLC.
With all that in mind, and the fact that is a cheaper and more honest alternative to selling third versions, yeah, I definitely think it makes sense to charge money for this DLC. At the very least, I don’t see cause to complain about this. And I really hope other Pokemon fans feel the same way.
