Pokémon Bank will cease operations on February 26th next year.
It was announced today that new updates are coming to Pokémon HOME. One of those updates was the discontinuation of Pokémon Bank. Once Pokémon Bank finally goes offline, it'll be impossible to transfer Pokémon between different generations or even to the modern titles on the Switch.
While this is a big upset for everyone, I've grown kind of indifferent about transferring older Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. I don't have much of a need for Pokémon that I have in older games. I still need them in those titles so I can continue to take on the challenges present in those games and in spin-off games like Pokémon Battle Revolution.
In terms of the Advanced series, I don't need to transfer Pokémon to the DP series games since I already have Pokémon Box. There's also Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD, so I have multiple places to store Pokémon in the third generation. If there are Pokémon in older games I think should be used in newer titles, I should save them in special boxes in Pokémon Bank and transfer them to Pokémon HOME before Bank gets shut down.
This day was bound to come. We all knew it. But nobody had any answers for what they'd do after everything was already said and done. I'm sure there will be fan efforts to resurrect Pokémon Bank and bring older Pokémon to the Switch and Switch 2. But until that day comes, there might not be any other way to do so.
I suggest you transfer all the Pokémon you need to Pokémon HOME while you still can. Some of these Pokémon are rare and won't be usable in future Pokémon games. I definitely suggest transferring event Pokémon since there are so few of them in the wild that are legitimate.
After 13 years, the bank finally shuts its doors.
