Dick Parry, Pink Floyd’s Go-to Sax Man, Dies at 83
Dick Parry, the man whose saxophone graced such Pink Floyd LPs as the Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, died May 22 at 83 from undisclosed causes.
David Gilmour announced Parry’s death, with the guitarist saying he’d been playing with “my dear friend” for more than 60 years.
That’s Parry on “Us and Them,” “Money,” “Shine on You Crazy Diamond,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Wearing the Inside Out.”
“His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty that is known to millions and is such a big part of (those) songs,” Gilmour said.
Parry regularly toured with Pink Floyd in the 1970s, rejoined them on the road in 1994 after appearing on the Division Bell and performed at the group’s 2005 Live 8 reunion. Parry also toured with the Who, Violent Femmes, Gilmour’s solo bands and other groups.
“(He) will be remembered through generations by his amazing talent,” the tribute band Brit Floyd wrote on social media. “Rest in peace, legend.”
