Summary:

Tim Drake is eleven years old when he’s grabbed off the streets of Bristol while he’s on his way home. It will be okay, he tells himself: they’ll call his parents, and they’ll pay the ransom, and he’ll get to go home. There are pictures of Batman and Robin on the camera he was carrying. A lot of pictures. They don’t call his parents. They call Black Mask. - or: the one where Black Mask kidnaps Tim and tries to groom him into a ruthless heir, and Tim tries to figure out how to destroy him from the inside out. General warnings tagged, anything not covered by those is in end-of-chapter notes to avoid spoilers.

Just finished tearing through this fic and its sequel today (straight up took extra bathroom breaks at work so I could keep reading) and it's so fantastic. This is a what if kind of fic, where tim drake gets kidnapped off the street for normal rich kid ransom reasons, but his camera full of batman and robin pics gives him away as something a little more interesting. Black Mask sees that potential and tries to keep it for himself, but is just too shortsighted to realize how many levels of game Tim Drake can play at once. The sequel fic from Red Hood Jason's perspective is equally spectacular, and it's so cool getting to see what years of forced imprisonment and survival mindset have done to Tim from an outsider's perspective. This fic does such a great job of making me feel what Tim is feeling at any given moment, whether that's horror, panic, pride, or good old fashioned dissociation. It was so good I'm actually shook I get to recc it before anyone else got here! Added the minor death tag because unnamed characters die on-page pretty explicitly, and separate warning for a bit of MC torture (Tim's a prisoner of Black Mask, it goes with the territory).

i've been under anesthesia a couple times, including when i was really little. i also really, really hate drinking/smoking, same reason you don't do that, but anesthesia is so quick i don't panic, i'm just Out. i've learned that it super helps me if i have paper and pencil available before i'm under/after i'm up-- documenting where i am, how my body feels, and what's happening around me helps me focus and not overthink (i ask nurses for this)

Eh. I am one person and my research is my own and might not overlap with others. 

Like, I have enormous respect for the @act6tarotproject. Like, very early on, I had some very very deep conversations with them about some of the card castings, and even if we didn’t see eye to eye in the end, that’s perfectly okay. It is not my project and I fully endorse them going forth and kicking ass. The amount of work and oversight it takes to successfully pull this off is.... jfc, I can’t even imagine.
