Also, I love the Bats, and recognize that it is by far the most popular subset of the fandom. (4 times bigger than it's closest rival on AO3!) I'd love to see the full spectrum of the DCU represented, so I encourage submitting for smaller subfandoms! But Bats are just as welcome. (And that's what a lot of my recs are going to be.)

Note about spelling:
If you are British/Canadian/From Some Other Country that uses '-our', '-re', '-ise', etc, you have every right to be annoyed by me spelling it 'Authour'. That hasn't been an accepted spelling since Middle English. However, I only accept complaints from fellow Canadians who have survived 90s/early 2000s American spellcheck. After years of wiggly lines under 'colour' and 'neighbour', I hypercorrect all '-or' words, and no one can stop me!
Note for submitters:
You are absolutely allowed to give me different tags than the authour added. The goal of this blog is to draw readers to fic they haven't read before, and that includes offering new perspectives on fics they may have already seen! Readers can still look at the authour's tags after clicking the link. (some things, like the 'Other Relationship' tag, NEED to be different from the authour's, since most sites don't have them as an option!)

This blog is designed to allow you some basic customization. Any tag that you don't like can be blocked. (Under Tumblr Settings: Content You See: Filtered Tags or Filtered Post Content.)

Not only is it the first-ever fic on AO3 to focus on Jessica Cruz, as she is portrayed in My Adventures with Superman, but she works through her anxiety as she meets someone her own age, a girl who is also voiced by Auli'i Cravalho in a series that Disney dealt a bad hand. It's a nice fic with growing friendship between these two girls as they go to Jess's favorite boba tea shop in Metropolis, named Metroboba, and she has a bit of a celebrity crush on Supergirl, who she went to see at the nearby convention named Super-Fest.

Jason spends his time taunting the Bats, who all think he's a hallucination. He also spends his time being pestered for information about his dead boyfriend, Jason Todd. Everything is spinning out of control, and watching him try to ride the tidal wave is incredibly fun!
hi! to add onto your tagging discussion. i think a catch-all batcest tag (any pairing between characters who ever have a familial/legal/ward relationship to bman, regardless of AU or tone) is the clearest tag option for the original issue you were working with because ppl with the broadest definition of batcest will also probably be the least comfortable finding it by accident. i don't necessarily like it as a term but i'm not the one who would use it, and i very much understand where they're coming from. the harassment is an issue i'm not familiar with so I can't comment on whether this is actually a good idea.
at the same time, this fandom has so much variance and AUs and a love of gray areas that it's generally necessary to figure out and filter what works for you on an individual basis, case-by-case. it is a bit more than a basic courtesy that you're taking the time to figure this out, which i appreciate :)
i'd support dubcon and incest tags based on how the recommender reports it. imo simple is good, and i'm not sure a pre-determined definition will be better at capturing how uncomfortable a story actually feels to read than the recommender. cheers

There are a number of Tumblr users who send in asks to authours who write certain ships demanding they defend why they "ship incest". Sometimes with a lot of discussion about how "harmful it is to survivors" or wondering whether they "support it in real life".
There were also a lot of posts going around a few years ago talking about how gross Batcest shippers were, and lots of DNIs that include "Batcest shippers", but I've blocked the tag now and don't know if that's still happening.
Basically, "batcest" as a tag seems to mostly be used by people who think there's something wrong with writing fiction about characters with the same mentor, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not wanting to READ that kind of fic makes perfect sense! But most of the things I've seen aren't about the ships, they're about something being wrong with the authours/readers who enjoy them.
Blocking tags for all the various pairings is more work, but those labels are value neutral, and don't suggest anything about the authour. Authours have it hard enough, these days.

The problem with a very broad incest tag is that this blog is for fic that people are recommending. Which means that most people aren't using the tags for things THEY'RE uncomfortable with, they're using them to help others. If the fic made them uncomfortable, they probably wouldn't be recommending it!
The batfandom's definition of "incest" is so contradictory that a tag that was completely up for interpretation would be useless. I'd only be using it for fic where people are turned on by the other person being family (which I mostly don't read) - which would mean more sensitive fans wouldn't be getting much benefit. Other people would be tagging every JayTim fic - which would mean people who only want to avoid incestual vibes wouldn't be able to block the tag.
I don't define "rape/dubcon", but there are, at least, broadly understood meanings to those terms. People have an idea of how they're supposed to interpret them, even if the details vary. (And if someone goes through the "blog rules" tag I do offer suggestions of what could count.) Even if I'm not bothered by something, I can guess that it WILL bother the majority of people blocking that tag.

In summary: I'm not willing to use the "Batcest" tag, or suggest that an "incest" tag be used in a similar way. For people uncomfortable with any pairings between characters that share a mentor, I suggest they create the experience they want by blocking all the possible pairings.
That will be more reliable than an optional additional tag, anyways - a lot of submitters don't provide any warnings.
(The amount of submissions we get that talk about death in the summary, but don't include any warnings, amuses me! A lot of superhero fans don't even notice death unless it's gory.)
I've yet to hear the perspective of anyone who wants a more narrowly defined "incest" tag, has a definition I'm comfortable with, and thinks that one would be worth the risks to authours. But I'm still open to that possibility! I can think of two fic that could use that tag but not the "Noncon/Dubcon" or "Underage Sex" tags, so it would have at least some use. But until we can agree on a definition, I think we'll rely on people mentioning that kind of content in their comments - both fic I can think of did.

Another fic I would love to have bound! It's such a masterful AU that i got invested in right away and then was pulled into the entire time. Western and Sci fi at the same time!, So many great references to silver age superman comics, with the awesome addition of John Henry. no shade to that other anon, but I actually think the way you spell authour is so fun and fully respect not wanting to conform to US "correct spellings". People always try to tell me to spell gray as "grey" and I hate it with a passion.

Given how omnipresent the word is on this blog, I'm never going to begrudge someone wanting to make sure it isn't a persistent mistake I'm making. Especially since we've got a lot of writers here, who both tend to care about words, and are, in fact, described by the word in question.
Still, spelling is meant to serve us, and I will only bow so far to its whims! It's pretty easy to figure out what I'm saying. I invite everyone to engage in such harmless and fun rebellions against how things are done. It frees the mind.
Comics, conlangs, linguistics, history - my interests all bleed into each other. I hope you have a lot of fun, conlangs can be SO COOL!
The Legionnaires are also majority aliens! This is why most of them have kinda nonsense names. The human characters have names that are easier to remember, often just with letters for average 60s name switched aroun. (Sun Boy = Dirk Morgna [like Morgan], Bouncing Boy = Chuck Taine, Colossal Boy = Gim Allon [like Jim Allen], Invisible Kid and Computo = Jaqcues and Danielle Foccart [they're just from a French speaking country!]). While thr mkre alien a character is, the more weird their name is (Matter Eater Lad = Tenzil Kem, Chameleon Boy = Reep Daggle, Triplicate Girl = Lournu Durgo, Phantom Girl = Tinya Wazzo)
They are the ANNOYING kind of alien, Conner! I LOVE conlangs (made up languages)! And I have a special interest in onomastics (the study of names)! There could be interesting things going on with their names, like there are with Kryptonians, or even Thanagarians! (I like the "first name becomes kid's last name" patronymic structure some Thanagarians use.) Even Tamaranians and Martians have SOMETHING funky going on with the placement of apostrophes, even if they're mostly just using random letters.
But most of the Legion are just "length, structure, and feel mimic English names but they use silly sounds". Most people have first and last names, no matter what planet they're on, and ... and ...
THEY'RE BORING, I CAN'T REMEMBER THEM, AND IT ANNOYS ME!

Those are not real names, so they DO NOT stick in my head! EVERY SINGLE TIME I have to look up which codenames I should tag.
