Chemical name: Bromovinyldeoxyuridine
Appearance: capsule or tablet form
It is an antiviral drug that is taken in order to treat herpes zoster. It blocks the action of DNA polymerases, thus it inhibits viral replication. Compared to acyclovir or penciclovir, brivudine has a stronger antiviral effect on varicella-zoster virus.
2. How should Brivudine be taken?
It is taken orally once daily unlike the other antiherpetic drugs. The standard dose for herpes zoster is 125 mg once daily for 7 days.
