-6- Describe your OCs voice? Do they have the troll accent? What about their pitch and rhythm of speech? 

I’m glad someone asked! Because I think Jade or someone asked me a long time ago and I didn’t have a good answer. Or reference. But I feel like I can describe it a bit. So I’m gonna go on a bit, here. 

When I made Brix, I wanted a non-hero background kinda dude. Generic Darkspear Axethrower was literally his MRP forever. So, because of that I didn’t mind the in-game voice as a base. Coming to know him better over time, though. It’s probably a bit higher in general, especially when he’s sober-ish. Low and quiet when he’s serious. Louder and squeaky when he’s shitfaced or mad. I like to make his voice crack when he’s yelling or scared. He’s young, it’s embarrassing, it fits. If you startled him by popping out around a corner, it would be one of those ear-piercingly high screams followed by an overcompensatingly low-toned threat to your life. 

As for accent, yes definitely. He’s got plenty of friends without an accent, though. So this is typically how I play it. When he’s just talking with Elle or someone in a kind of private setting, he’s definitely more capable of saying things in Orcish the way they’re intended. But toss him around his Zandali fluent buddies and that accent comes back THICK. Until it’s almost a point of pride for him. To lose his accent entirely and sound like another Orc would feel like disrespecting where he’d come from. 

-15- Does your OC have an opinion on other troll tribes? Do they discriminate against any of them?

In general, I’d have to honestly say Brix is pretty Xenophobic. But I’ll go into that on another post. He believes the stereotypes and horror stories he hears for the most part. Definitely was much more so before he met some of his recent friends. 

Like Ice Trolls, for example. Now some of who he considers his best friends are. And Dead on top of that. Those were big leaps for him to take at first. And it took years of knowing Rock and his fellow tribe members before Brix was really generally okay with it all. And they all would STILL get the side eye. 

He’s got a direct history with some AHEM unnamed Stranglethorn Vale trolls that he’d like to forget as soon as possible. So he’s wary around them in general, but more from paranoia that somehow every one of them might have known he once dared trespass where he shouldn’t. If a Bloodscalp invited him to dinner, he would probably decline. I don’t think he’s really met any desert/sand trolls. 

But Brix won’t go out of his way to meet ANYONE, to be fair. He’s pretty sure everyone he meets has an ulterior motive that involves body harvesting him or taking something from him in general. There’s plenty of ways to win him over, but don’t expect a warm greeting without a hefty dose of time and distance.

-18- Does your OC believe in the Loa? Are they superstitious or spiritual? Do they worship a particular loa?

Yes! Although he remembers every single superstition (and made up plenty more along the way), Brix is more of a bare minimum practicer in his actual worship. He knows it’s important and real, but doesn’t keep up on his offerings or anything of the sort. He feels his more recent lifestyle has fallen out of typical favour of the Loa, anyway.

Being Darkspear, the main Loa he’s focused on would be Bwonsamdi. Though he gets the feeling that were he to really call on the Loa in a desperate moment, none would be rushing to his aid.

Troll Ask #23

Does your OC practice Voodoo? Have they ever tried it? What is their opinion on it?TL;DR HA! Noooo. Non-practicing. Zero attempts. Much fear. 

Brix has no difficulty believing in the effectiveness of Voodoo. And because of that, he stays far away. He’s got superstitions about his superstitions. And if he doesn’t, but feels uncomfortable, he’ll just make one up and immediately commit to it. One thing is definitely laughable to him; the idea that there’s females out there practicing Voodoo. He doesn’t really take that seriously. Like they’re not ‘real’ practicers and they’ve only mastered some parlour tricks. I’m all for someone to come along and shut him up about it, though. ;)

-11- From which tribe are they from? Do they have family or relations in other tribes? What do they think of their tribe’s current leader?

Brix is Darkspear, through and through. He’s the only surviving member of his immediate family, but that’s not uncommon. Many young trolls are raised by the tribe when their parents succumb to war. It’s possible he may have some distant relatives that he lost track of after they came to Kalimdor. Now mixed into the world, and scattered. Though, I don’t know how he’d find out unless they sought him by name. 

By leader, we mean Sylvanas? He definitely feels like he owes the Horde his life, regardless of current leader. But Vol’jin’s death broke him in a way he was unprepared to handle, really. I think he’s still pretty fucked up about it. Darkspear never die, but… Some dead elf lady in charge? Many doubts. But still reluctantly willing to follow orders.

-12-  How many siblings do they have? Did they grow up in a large family?

I’ve changed my mind a few times on this. Originally he had an older brother. As a human he has a little brother with a 17 year age difference. But now, with how he’s evolved, I really like the idea of him once having an older sister figure. However, the reality is that he was really young when he lost his whole family and doesn’t have many complete memories of them. At least not ones he’ll let himself access. So to him it wouldn’t really matter so much if it was a brother or sister or no one at all. But the rest of the Tribe took care of him and in that way he definitely feels part of a large family. Although, they always want things from him when he goes home. Fix this, do that. But sometimes it’s nice to be needed.

-37-How does your OC handle being in heat? Are they more tolerable of it than other trolls? How long would you say the cycle is? Do you as the creator/mune believe your troll goes through heat?

Now… I’m no expert, but I don’t exactly think male trolls experience this. BUT. I will say that the idea of Troll Female Heat is probably -the-  single most scariest thing in this life to Brix. The idea that he would be demanded to perform sexually for days at a time and subsequently produce children is like… Honestly just.. the WORST to him. 

-36-  Do they have any preferences for a significant other such as: physical attributes? Personality? What type of troll he/she/they are/is?

uhhhhh… Well. heh. 

BEFORE recent years, he would probably -tell- you he had a preference for quiet, submissive troll women. (ha!) Reality, though? Definitely not true. In fact it’s pretty much the exact opposite of what he needs. 

Just about anything might make Brix blush, but he’s definitely a picky guy. Incredibly picky. So picky, he usually picks someone he can pine over forever without ever letting on to his interest (intentionally). 

-29- Have they ever experienced a culture shock when the Darkspear joined the horde? Are they more welcoming of other cultures? Are there any particular customs of other races they find strange?

Brix was still little when they came to the Echo Isles. His contact with orcs was very limited, but he still knew that he wanted to go to Orgrimmar one day and join the Horde in an official capacity. Arriving in Orgrimmar was a different story, entirely. It took him a long time to recover from that initial shock in general. Not just the city itself and the array of people passing through, but the way other races treated him. People talk about the Horde having equality of both sexes and races, but he’d definitely had a hard time seeing that side. Especially with so many elder trolls struggling with the new ‘rules’. 

Everything is still foreign and strange to Brix, and nothing feels like home anymore. More often than not, he’ll default to scared because he doesn’t understand. Something like sleeping in a soft bed with a ton of pillows and blankets like Elves or Pandarens drives him nuts. He’d rather sleep on the floor than feel like he was going to be suffocated in fabric quick-sand. He absolutely will not try new foods that look foreign.

25: Is he a good fighter?

Shit no!! Brix fighting is the equivalent of watching Mr Magoo try to navigate construction over a pit. Any move he makes that seems intentionally bad ass is sheer coincidence and usually just because he’s drunk enough to be bendy. It’s been so long since he actually trained to fight, and as bad as Brix is- his trainer was about ten times worse about mixing drinking with… everything.

29: Do they have any preferences for a significant other?

Ohhh wow. How much he’d hate me for giving a definitive answer, here. I guess first I should mention Brix is pretty dang straight, as far as I can really tell.Brix spent most of his youth being virtually invisible. He was likely to fall head over heels for any girl who pays him enough attention. Not that he really picks up on what flirting is or should be, and has zero clue how to make a move. Totally content to just pine away for someone from a distance forever and ever. SO all that being said on my end, he’d probably just say that his preferences are: small, Elven, redheads who play violin and are named Elle. 

30: Is your OC misogynist/sexist? 

YES. And thanks for asking! As painful as it may be sometimes, I think it’s important to remember how he was raised. He’s young enough that the ‘modern’ ways of the Horde have taught him to be generally respectful, but there’s some aspects where I think he’d be a bit more ignorant. Albeit a bit troll exclusive sexism.An example is VooDoo. Brix doesn't’ personally know many troll females who practise, and therefore sees it as kind of a joke. He’s certainly never SEEN any of them perform voodoo. So if a female troll came up to him and claimed to be a witchdoctor, he’d probably laugh in her face. He doesn’t apply the same for females from other races, though. Like he’s DAMN sure that Elle can do whatever she wants and no one’s going to say what for. o.o

Challenge time! If you had to describe Brix'tul to a young child, what would you say?

   This is such a great (and truly challenging) question. I’ve been thinking on it for HOURS now. At some point, I feel like this would just transition into a “Why do you Roleplay” conversation. Or more specifically “Why do you RP a Male-Monster-slacker-with-an-addiction-problem?”  It’s really making me kind of self examine.

    To most friends and family, when they ask about my characters I just explain that Brix'tul is a character in a series of stories my friends and I write. It’s close enough to the truth with out having to come out and say “I play pretend in World of Warcraft.” For the act of simplifying to a child, I’d describe it similarly, but focus more on the act of using your imagination to become something that you’re not temporarily. Escapism is a huge part of RP to me. I think kids can relate to that. They pretend they’re NOT little kids, and psychologically it helps them sort out the real world in doing so.  

   When I rolled Brix… I made him because I wanted to take part in a character that I wished I could interact with on my other characters. Coming from a DnD background where I am typically the DM, I like to focus on making secondary characters- instead of ‘main characters’. To elaborate… Everyone likes to play 'the Hero’ but people forget about the importance of the supporting characters. And in DnD it’s important to play well in a group, and to add to that dynamic, VS trying to be THE ONE the story is centered around. You have to pass back and forth in RP, and group fluidity always works better when you trade hands on who’s the 'main’ story for the moment. But to do that, you have to make sacrifices.  For me, it’s boring to be THE BEST at something. To be THE ONE everyone follows. It’s much more of a challenge to make a less-likable character with obstacles of his own making. I find him super relatable in his imperfectness. And maybe in that way, through the escapism, he’s helping me psychologically suss out my own lazy demons.
