BroadQuest is an annual event, a competition between the sections of Sophomore Communication Arts students, under the subject of Broadcast Communication. We were tasked to create programming for a 10 hour block of UST Tiger Radio, the official internet radio of the University of Santo Tomas, 2 programs (simulcast for UST Tiger Radio and TOMCAT TV), and at least one news program. The competition was held at October 3, 2013 at Beato AVR.
When our professor, Ma'am Faye Martel-Abugan, announced to our class about this competition, pressure is felt by my blockmates, including myself. This is because there was another competition our class had to prepare for, which is MarkStrat 2013.
Nevertheless, our class planned and worked on our Broadcast Plan and Strategy. We have decided that our production house name will be PRISM Communications. Our class was divided into groups which worked on several tasks. Some thought of programming concepts, and program scheduling. Although, initially, our plans have been criticized for not having a strategy to set the plans in action. Then our class has thought about making a strategy, and here is a photo of our initial strategy:
As a result, the groups in worked on having a radio strategy, television strategy and overall strategy and planning, in which we applied broadcast strategies, formats, and tactics discussed in class with Ma'am Faye. I have to admit, many of us stayed late at school, spent sleepless nights, all for the preparation of the competition, and conflicts between the class cannot be avoided. Our findings and research were presented in class, with Ma'am Faye giving us her feedback.
As the competition draws near, everyone had their gears on for BroadQuest 2013, speakers were chosen, and finalization of the BroadQuest Paper was being settled.
On the day of the competition, everyone was nervous, everyone believed in our plans and in our speakers so that we may win awards, and the competition. PRISM Communications were to present last, so it was quite the wait. After the presentation of the 3 other sections which was Ignite (2CA1), Stratos (2CA2) and Eximus (2CA3), It was Eximus' presentation that impressed me the most. It was clear, well researched, and straight to the point. The only downside is, they did not have a plan for Television.
During the presentation of PRISM, it was quite noticeable that the speakers were not in formal attire, and according to my blockmates, other sections noticed it too, since it was not fit for such an event. Honestly though, during their presentation, I noticed some mistakes in the Powerpoint presentation, my blockmates constantly reminded them of what time they have left, sttutering, as well as some negative comments regarding the presentation of the plan. In the end though, PRISM Communications didn't win the miscellaneous awards, but we won as 2nd Runner Up.

In the end though, BroadQuest 2013 was very memorable. There was a bit of disappointment of not winning some awards and the overall winner, but happiness was also felt by the class for our place as 2nd Runner Up. It actually served as an eye opener for all of us. We noticed where we went wrong in preparation and execution, resolved conflicts, strengthened our bond as a class, enforced our cooperation. We promised ourselves we would do our best in our next competitions as a class. We thought, this must be God's way of strengthening the bond of 2CA4, of PRISM Communications. :)
