Dany in the new trailer looks broken.
Not mad, not pissed.
Broken. Defeated.
Her hair is mostly out of the elaborate braids that represent all of her victories, she's leaning against the wall in Dragonstone for support. Her posture, vacant expression and hair all tell me, not of a mad queen or a tyrant, but a scared, lonely child who has lost everything and everyone. Again.
Missandei had been by her side since Daenerys brought and freed her back in season three. She had been with Dany at Yunkai where Dany watched the Titan's Bastard touch Missandei's arse. Dany didn't sit back, you could see the look of disgust on her face at the casual grope. Missandei had been uncomfortable and that's what made Dany pissed. She wanted that man dead first, because she knew if he stayed alive, he'd rape Missandei. After freeing the Yunkai'i/Yunkish (both are correct), which had a small siege with Daario of the Second Son and a small band of Dany's closest, they travelled to Meereen.
Ruling Meereen had its struggles, she was met with resistance because of her freeing the Astaphori and Yunkai'i slaves and her breaking the chains of the Meereenese too. The Sons of the Harpy killed many of the 8, 000 Unsullied during their siege, including at the Pit. There were an estimate ~4000 some that left Meereen alive (season 6) with Dany and her Khalasar.
Yes, she has dragons, and she had wanted to march on King's Landing and burn it to the ground, but time and time again, she was asked not to, because of all the people who lived in the city. Because violence wouldn't have the people seeing her as a liberator but a tyrant. So, she didn't. Instead, she attacked the Loot Train.
Why?
Because the Unsullied were at Casterly Rock and trapped. The Lannister army could have over powered them and House Tarly turned their back on their liege lady by kneeling to the woman who murdered their liege lord (Lord Tyrell) and his two children (Margaery and Loras) when she blew the Sept of Baelor to the Seventh Hell.
While she, personally, lead and fought, she was never defeated.
And then Missandei died.
Rhaegal died.
Their deaths, so sudden, so stupid, they were personal defeats, as was the death of Ser Barristan Selmy. Missandei, like Viserion, was gentle, soft. Too beautiful and pure for the horrible deaths they faced. Missandei of Naath, a peaceful woman from a peaceful people.
Daenerys didn't just loose her translator. She lost her best friend. The woman she brought and freed.
The young woman she would have let sail to Naath if she ever asked.
The young woman who wanted to stay with her because she felt safe.
