No, Tumblr, I am not interested in Tumblrs about The Handmaid's Tale. I saw three episodes and that was enough. So I stopped, because: 1) I didn't feel that watching a show that made me feel angry and hopeless was to my benefit. 2) I have lost interest in dystopias since I started living in one. 3) There are fools who think that the people of Gilead are really anti-abortion, so they can't be bad and therefore their regime can't be all bad. Apparently they missed the part about babies being extremely rare in Gilead's world, and healthy babies even rarer. The Gileadians do not value babies because they hate abortion but because there is widespread sterility in their world, thanks to pollution, toxic waste, etc. (The fans of Gilead aren't the show's fault, but their lack of reading/viewing comprehension is still annoying.) 4) Since finding out that brown women from poor countries are often hired as surrogates by rich couples (and are treated poorly, in most cases), I have felt even more uncomfortable with the show. 5) FGM as a punishment for lesbianism. Which, BTW, was not in the book. So I guess it was added for shock value to get the attention of the media. (It worked.) 6) If I want to watch women, LGBTQ people, etc. suffer because of neoconservative fundamentalist zealots, I can google the news. So please, @staff--fix your algorithm. I am not interested.
