Once just ONCE I want to watch a movie where the main character says that she doesn’t need a man and her relationships with her sisters/friends are the real love stories of her life…and then she’s still single at the end of the movie or she’s in a relationship but the movie ends with her dancing/brunching/living it up with her girl friends.

Like, if the real love story is her friendships then why is she snogging him????

I'm sorry but you absolutely cannot strip Jane Austen's work of Regency politics and social etiquette without the entire narrative collapsing into nonsense.

Modern writers need to stop treating Austen’s world like a generic, pretty fairy tale, and start remembering that her books were actually razor-sharp critiques of a brutal socioeconomic landscape with examinations of class, gender, power and money that are still culturally relevant today.

Mr. Bennet: Sure, I haven't taken care of my daughters' financial security, but have I at least taken care of their education? No. But have I taken care of their emotional needs? Also no.
