Mudane Terry clench his right fist as he smirks and roars and runs off to fight Windigo Woman.
Kade smiled slightly as he listened to Inka telling him a very elaborate story. He had no idea what it was about, but she was having a lot fun.
Ray shook his head as he walked into the living room. His eyes flickered to the teen sitting on the floor, talking to Inka. The young man's been visiting them once or twice through the week. Inka just wouldn't let it go if he didn't come to say hi.
It was a strange relationship.
The two seemed to get along very well. It seemed like Kade really did care about her.
"Kade" Ray said "Isn't it time for you to go back?"
Kade glanced at his watch and sighed. "Yeah...." he said before looking at Inka "Sorry, Kiddo" he glanced at Ray "I have to go now... You can finish your story next time"
Inka pouted before she nodded. "Okay..." she said "But stay longer next time"
"I'll do my best" Kade said as he gave her a gentle hug, before getting to his feet. He turned to Ray, looking hesitant. "There's..... There's something I... Well I... It's just...."
Ray frowned. "What's it, Boy?" he asked.
Kade sighed. "I want to ask you something.... a favour" he said, pulling his hand through his hair.
"What is it?" Ray asked, studying the young man in front of him.
Looking down at the floor, Kade took a deep breath. "The academy is forcing everyone to have a.... guardian as a contact for emergencies" he said quickly, almost talking to fast "So... yeah... I guess.... If you don't mind... I'd....."
Ray looked at the teen for a moment, before he smiled slightly, putting his hand on the teen's shoulder. "That's alright.... I'd be honoured if you did that"
Kade's eyes widened slightly. "Oh...." he said, a slight smile forming on his face "Thank you.... so much"

"We what?" Kade asked, blinking at Killian.
"Oh right.... You haven't been here long enough for this...." Killian said with a shrug "Every year we have to do a power testing so they can rank your powers through the year"
Kade just stared at his friend.
Riley leaned on Killian's shoulder as he looked at Kade. "Yeah... where did you think the rankings came from?" he asked.
"Screw you, Ri" Kade snapped.
Riley chuckled. "Hey.... It's not my fault that you didn't try to find out everything" he said "That's your own stupidity"
Kade sighed and shook his head.
"What's the test about?" he asked.
"That depends on your power" Killian said "So you wouldn't know until you get to the testing"
"That just stupid" Kade said, shaking his head "When is it?"
Killian smiled. "Tomorrow" he said "So make sure to take your meds and get enough sleep, because Bell's not going to be here if you freak out"
"Why would I freak out?" Kade asked annoyed.
"Just.... Chill, alright" Killian said and Riley nodded.
"I will yeet you two through a window if you keep on doing this" Kade warned as he got up from the chair at Killian's desk.
"You'll have to catch us first" Riley laughed.
Kade flipped him off, before walking to the door. "I'll see you two, assholes tomorrow" he said as he left the room.
Killian sighed. "This is not going to be good...." he muttered before looking at Riley.
"Yeah.... Wasn't the deal that they don't do this kind of things with him?" Riley asked and Killian nodded.
"Because his power his power becomes unstable so easily"
"Like Curio's?"
"Yeah...." Killian said, looking worried at the door "Something like that.... Most of the time he's pretty in control of it, but..... when he starts getting worked up and stuff like that...."
"Right.... I remember" Riley said with a nod "We'll just have to keep an eye on him then"
"he wouldn't like that"
"He doesn't get a say in it"
Riley nodded as his phone started ringing. He glanced at the ID. "It's Beck" he said 'They are probably on their way back"
"Get out of my room" Killian said "So I can do some studying"
Riley smirked as he answered the phone, leaving Killian's room.
***
Killian, Beck and Riley knew the moment everything started going wrong. Shadows started ripping through everything around them, going out of control.
"Oh shit...." Beck said "That... cannot be good"
The shadows surged, before disappearing completely.
The three glanced at each other before they turned and started running towards the testing rooms.
The moment they got close, they noticed the chaos.
People were running around. Half of the testing rooms looked like they've been destroyed. There were shadow burns all over the walls, ceiling and floors.
"Oh man...." Killian whispered "This is not good...."
Without hesitation he ran towards the fist tester he could find.
"What happened?" he asked the man.
"NightShade went out of control" the man gasped.
"That's obvious" Riley snapped behind them "What did you do to him?"
"That has nothing to do with you" the man snapped, just as a figure appeared behind the man.
"Ray...." Killian gasped as he recognized Kade's father.
Without even looking back, Ray walked to one of the destroyed rooms.
The room was completely destroyed, covered in darkness. He could hear the sound of strangled breathing.
Ray frowned as he stepped inside. "Kade?" he asked as he moved towards the sound of breathing. The shadows flickered before slowly pulling back slightly, becoming lighter, enough for Ray to be able to see slightly.
Kade sat in a corner, his knees pulling up against his chest.
There were visible shadow stains all over his body, blood dripping down his hands.
Slowly Ray knelt next to the teen.
"Kade...." he said quietly, not touching the young man.
Kade flinched. His entire boy was trembling. It felt like he couldn't breath. The darkness closed in on him. Even his chest felt tight.
"It's alright... Nothing happened, Boy" Ray said gently.
Kade lifted his head slightly. "Nonononononono...... I...I.... I-I...killed them.... they...t-they're....dead....I-I...." he stuttered as he started rocking back and forth.
There were tears running down his face, but it didn't even look like he noticed it.
Carefully Ray placed his hand on Kade's shoulder. "You're having a panic attack..." he said softly "I need you to take a deep breathe.... Do you think you can do that?"
Kade shook his head.
Ray sighed, "That's alright.... Pull your shadows back, if you can" he said gently.
Slowly the shadows started disappearing, leaving them in a dim room.
Only now could Ray see what looked like claw marks on the walls, as well as shadow stains. The same stains that was on Kade's blackened fingers, as well as on his face and the corners of his eyes.
"What did they do to you?" Ray asked quietly, keeping his hand on Kade's shoulder.
"....I'm sorry...." Kade whispered, as he started wiping the tears away, but they just kept on streaming down his face.
There was a sound of footsteps and Ray lifted his head, narrowing his eyes at the person in the door. "Back the hell up" he hissed coldly "Or I'll make you"
Quickly the man stepped back.
Ray turned his attention back to Kade. Carefully he placed his hand on Kade's hair. "Come on, Boy" he said "You need to breathe.... Slowly.... just in and out.... as far as you can"
Kade trembled, almost flinching away from Ray. He struggled to keep his breathing even, to draw in an even breath.
"Slowly...." Ray said softly "Slowly.... It's alright.... Nothing's going to happen.... I wouldn't let anything happen"
When Kade finally managed to take a deep breath, his shoulders relaxed slightly. "I.... I.... I'm sorry...." he gasped.
Ray shook his head, brushing Kade's hair back. The shadows started moving again and worry started to building in Ray's chest. If the teen didn't start relaxing, he would either los control again or pass out.
"Boy..." Ray said "You need to calm down.... Or do you need some help?"
"...Sorry...." Kade whispered as the shadows started withering again.
Ray sighed, placing his hand on the side of Kade's head. After a moment Kade's eyes just rolled back and he slumped back. Carefully he lifted Kade in his arms.
He got to his feet and walked to the door.
"Where are you going?" one of the instructors snapped.
Ray's eyes snapped towards the man. "I'm taking him home" he said "And just try to stop me"
Killian, Riley and Beck stood back so that Ray could move between them.
"Is he.... alright?" Killian asked.
Ray glanced at them, before nodding. "I'm taking him home, so he can rest" he said.
I cried today… For no reason, because of nothing, over everything. Heavy tears that unburdened my soul and sent my fears, worries and sense of hopelessness into the inner folds of my favourite navy blue shirt where they soaked through the thin fabric and left a moistened spot in their place… Like a memento of a lost moment filled with angst and unrequited compassion.
