If there's one thing Hawke can say about Fenris, it's that the elf can hit hard. Neil had recieved similar punches from Carver in the past, but none had ever knocked him off his feet. His jaw was on fire, and he was fairly sure it had been broken -or very nearly broken. The mage spat out a bit of blood, glaring up at Fenris. "I'm not the one you should blame if you can't face the truth, Fenris," he growled, slowly coming to his feet again.

//Maybe not to that same degree, but Zevran agrees with the sentiment, at least in regards to himself. Love among others is all well and grand, but he's not suited for it. 

To Zevran, love is an open door through which tragedy waltzes in. He's been trained to turn off his emotions; any sort of sentiment interferes with the task at hand. That, and everyone he's ever loved (Rinna, Taliesen, the warden in some verses) ends up dead. It's better to just avoid love altogether.
