Me when I post every other cat expect for the ones I promised to:
I’m honestly not the most proud of this design (especially her tail), but I HAVE to release her cuz she’s been in my drafts for like a month or 2. Shes one of my many favorite background characters, so the moment I got out of writers block I had to cook.
Design notes:
- Very soft and petal-ly.
- Build and fur texture wise she’s like her dad, but apart from that, the darker nose and ear color, and the lighter pattern she has on her eye matching Spider’s darker one, shes more like her mom in terms of appearance
- She’s actually Daisy’s cream color, but with a very saturated pink tint to her.
- Speaking of Daisy, she also has her patterns, eye color, hair, mole, ear tufts, and her petal patterns come from Daisy’s freckles. Made it so that you can see Spiderleg in her and Toad if u squint and tilt your head, but not that much. Spider doesn’t deserve having kits that look too much like him.
Headcannons: longer than usual, but only cuz I yap too much abt her relationships with her apprentices and family.
• Gained her father’s height, and despite her lanky build she was THE tallest cats in ThunderClan at the time. Yes, taller than Bramblestar, her father, and Hollyleaf, who was second tallest
• She has a very good memory, to the point where it’s unsettling. Would probably be one of those people that remembers what being in the womb was like.
• With that in mind, shes the one who remembers Spiderleg the most. She remembers how awkward he was when playing with them, the arguments he had with Daisy when they thought she was sleeping, and how he eventually stopped trying all together. Although she was sometimes curious, she didn’t really care. Because Daisy and her half-siblings loved her, so she didn’t feel the need to find out more about him because her life was already full.
• When Toadstep died, she would go to the ShadowClan border at night and watch the frogs, toads and fireflies come out. There she would just reminisce about him before just thinking abt her life as a whole.
• Rose mentored a total of 5 apprentices in her lifetime, the most a cat has mentored in the entire series (tied with Tawnypelt). I think the reason she had so many was because she didn’t really like the idea of birthing and raising kits, but at the same time loved the charm of big-eyed apprentices and their passion and drive to learn and be warriors. Mentoring made her happy, and that’s all that mattered.
• Was very close with Fernsong and his family because Rose mentored him and Bristlefrost. I like to think that despite Rose not liking kits, she still helped Fern raise his kits when they were small due to their closeness, before stepping back a bit once Ivypool got a bit more involved during their apprenticeship. I think Bristle, Flip and Thrift see her as an auntie, and Bristle appreciated her comfort and advice during apprenticeship, especially surrounding Stemleaf, who Rose also mentored.
• Larksong was the apprentice she was the least close with, because they conflicted in personality. Rose was cold, quiet, efficient and orderly, while Lark was bubbly, kind, energetic and merciful. They understood eachother, and Rose helped him mature and mellow out, but after he became a warrior the didn’t hang out as much.
• Used to be close with Berrynose, but he became a conservative jerk who believed Rose was better off in the nursery rather than mentoring, because he though that Rose was weak and her training all these warriors would make them weak too, making the clan weak. He became even more angry when she got Molewhisker as an apprentice and he started becoming more like her in demeanor. Tried fighting her once, but Rose humbled him and he left her alone but was resentful ever since.
• Rose and Berry actually died in the same battle, so I propose a theory/hc. Berry was on the imposters side till his death, while Rose fought against him till her death. We don’t know who killed Rose, but what if it was berrynose? Maybe he was angry due to the last hc, and used the battle as an opportunity to ambush Rose.
She was shocked he would do this, and although shes a good fighter, Berry had surprise and weight on his side and killed her. Tawnypelt, who was gathering friends with Rose due to the fact they both mentored a lot of apprentices, saw this and was so disgusted and enraged at him she gutted/mauled him as opposed to killing himself normally. Mousewhisker saw this, but he didn’t blame her because he too knows how bad his brother was (and not just to Rose) and kept his distance.
• Ever since her death, she would come down from StarClan to be present at every Apprentice and warrior naming ceremony in ThunderClan, before going back to do her own thing. Also watched over Daisy and Mousewhisker, who she wasn’t the closest with but still liked due to their bond with Molewhisker.
