Blackwatch was well known for their band of misfit agents, ex-gang members, criminals and what not who are offered a second chance at redemption, to make things right. Hibiki was like any other who worked in Blackwatch. Due to her criminal records she could never stand in the limelight with regular Overwatch operatives, but she can damn well do the dirty work they don’t want to.
That was years ago though.
She was picked up at Hanamura castle by sheer coincidence. If she hadn’t attacked when she did then perhaps she’d still be working for the Hagiwara clan. Frankly, she doesn’t know if she’d like that or not.
The Hagiwara clan wasn’t terrible, but they were rough. Blackwatch wasn’t like that, she had the respect she wanted, the family she never had, and people who cared about her.
Too bad that all blew up in her face, literally.
Now she worked as a mercenary, taking jobs, killing for money. Everything she did she got paid to do, it was easy money. Nothing different then what she used to do. She was an assassin by heart.
She barely knew any of the people she worked with in Blackwatch, the only notable mentions were Genji and McCree, and of course their commander. Other than that, she never talked much. Never interacted with many people.
Those habits seemed to have persist well into her adulthood, because even now, as a recalled agent, she avoided any if at all conversation.
While everyone had heartfelt reunions with old friends and colleagues, she stayed off to the side, leaning against the side of the hangar as she watched as these former Overwatch agents interact.
Even before Blackwatch she never thought of the Shimadas fondly. She hated them. Supposedly they were the reason her mother was arrested, but she never found out if that’s what really happened. Now, now she just regrets ever holding a grudge. She regrets a lot of things. It’s why she always stays quiet.
Hibiki glanced to the side slightly, noticing a woman chattering with McCree, probably former Blackwatch. She did look a bit familiar after all.
Staring off into the distance with a slight roll of her shoulders, she spoke to no one in particular.
❝ Doesn’t anyone else feel strange being back here? ❞ - @athrxfstos
It was damn good to be back.
Good to be doing something useful once more (or at least, something that held the illusion of usefulness--Cat wasn’t really sure how much good they could do for the world at this point in time). Regardless of anything else, it was something to keep busy with, and a nice reunion with old faces to boot. She was loath to admit it, but she missed a good number of these people, both Backwatch and Overwatch.
She’d found McCree almost instantaneously, spotting him from across the room with a gaggle of other agents. She didn’t even feel right calling the meeting a reunion, not when it felt like no time had passed whatsoever. It didn’t feel that way with anyone she caught up with, if she were being completely honest. Sure, most of them looked a little rougher than she remembered, but only in a way that felt natural to her.
She would miss her former lifestyle, of course. It wouldn’t be easy to go from bougie parties every weekend and her semi-legal way of funding them (Not that she intended to stop with her side job--she was still a woman of principle, of course).
Her eyes wandered around the base where most of the returned agents were gathered, landing on a solitary figure a little ways away. The stance and look in her eyes definitely spoke to her being former Blackwatch, though Cat had never gone out of her way to have a relationship with her of any sort. Out of sheer curiosity and perhaps a bit of a desire to simply stir the pot while she could.
“Oh, I don’t know,” she replied to the directionless question as she swayed over. “I think it’s where we’re supposed to be, really. I mean, where else would a group like this belong in such a way?”
