oppcrtunist:
fair enough.
in sombra’s field of work, subtlety was something of a requirement. it was natural for most hackers to work behind the scenes, doing their jobs from a remote location in relative safety- many were reluctant to get their hands dirty, and understandably so. however, sombra was one of the few that managed to be an exception to the rule, just as dangerouslyefficient up close and personal as she was from a distance. not that it was common knowledge; the public seemed to have trouble determining whether she was an individual or a collective, much less the full extent of what she was capable of.
in short, while she preferred to do her work behind a screen, sombra wasn’t afraid to come out of her cave if the situation warranted it. and while this particular instance was a little on the unusual side, it definitely counted.
admittedly there was something she couldn’t help but find amusing about hiding in plain sight. dressing up like some sort of tourist, settling down at one of the tables outside of the cafe and blending in effortlessly. it wasn’t as if it was a great feat of stealth or anything- anyone could order a couple of drinks and take up space, but it was entertaining to play the part nonetheless.
there was an empty chair across from her. the hacker deliberately placed the requested drink and snack on the table before it, as if to imply she was waiting for someone who had yet to arrive.
She rolled up to the cafe precisely fifteen minutes after she’s promised she would arrived, and considering she was currently running on hangover time, she saw that as a win.
The first thing she looked for was, of course, the nuts and espresso--okay, yes, she did ask for then because she was hungry and couldn’t be bothered to make herself something to eat before she left, but also, she did need some sort of marker to indicate who she was looking for. Who Sombra was.
Eight years was a long time to speak with someone while never seeing their face.
And to be honest, she really wasn’t expecting to see the person sitting behind the nuts that she did. But she wasn’t disappointed either.
“Fancy meeting you here,” she grinned coyly as she sat down across from Sombra, peeking out at her from over a pair of large, dark sunglasses.
“So, this is my infamous coworker--how does it feel to finally be in the light?” She grinned, taking a few walnuts off the top. “Also, before we do anything else, that’s a really nice lip colour. You’re gonna have to give me the brand before we’re done. Care to put one of my nuts in your mouth?” She offered, extending the cup forward.
“And while you’re chewing on those--I do need details for my next round of illegal activities with my ever-so-lovely partner in crime.” Her grin was positively wolfish, deliriously excited at the prospect of this job.
